Liz's pov

I sat up in my bed protected by Duke. I sat there for a good long time until I could walk again I didn't tell them why I couldn't walk...they didn't need to know the full story right? I don't remember what happened after all the whips and such its all just a blur....all I remember is pain... No one will tell me what happened when I blacked out. I finally began to feel better about three week had gone by. I sat up Duke and Ethan were downstairs I stared at the now faded scars on my body I Got dressed well enough to hide them all and walked out to then they had made breakfast for me. I ate with them then broke the news that I would be heading to the town today. They seemed oddly protective of that and persistent that they tag along but I denied them. I want time to myself today I've had enough of their protection I can protect myself. I left a little mad that they had thought I couldn't handle myself. I'm stronger than I look! Plus I have nothing to worry for! James is dead!

Ethan's pov
"We have to follow her" I hissed at duke. We never told liz James had gotten away or that I was wanted for robbing the town. We have to protect her. I shot up quickly and put on a hood "Come on duke we gota protect her!" Duke growled and got up annoyed we left to find her. It was no luck we had looked everywhere but no liz. I hope she's ok.

Lizs pov
I sat on a bench a little tired thinking about duke and Ethan. I've had a lot of time to think lately and I realise that i I gave the heart to just anyone what I it's the wrong person? How can I trust that they will use it properly. He's just proven himself a lot to me lately and all Ethan has done was one thing. I won't give my heart to someone who won't protect me. I felt a hand on my shoulder. I looked over at The hand to see duke "hey liz..." I jumped and smiled "ah hey duke...was Ethan to wimp to come get me? Pussy..." Duke laughed a little "no didn't he tell you? He was suppose to....he's wanted across the country side he can't leave the house. Did he tell you about James either or what happened with the heart?" I shook my head "why is he wanted?" "Well apparently James is alive and framed Ethan, James wants your heart because he is a shadow hunter turned shadow. He has shape shifting powers so he must be an earth shadow...your heart rejected him and took his arm off it was the scariest thing I've seen" he sat beside me and put his arm around me. "So me and Ethan are trying to protect you from him...mainly me" he shrugs "James knows how to get the heart from you successfully now I think, that's why we have been keeping you at home for so long." I let all of this sink in a little confused "Hey...we haven't done much since that night i came by from the fair...would you wanna get dinner with me?" I nodded "sounds nice sure." We walked to a good place to eat dinner. The place had a bar and a lot of good sounding things to eat. I got steak and some vodka. Duke got wine and parmesan chicken. We drank some and finished eating me and Duke ended up going on a walk around town we stopped at his pending house he was going to buy once he got enough money. It was pretty nice looking. We went on a nice walk through the woods and came across an old building we stopped by. Duke knocked the old chain from the doors and we walked inside. The power was out to the building and it was two stories high. It had furniture turned over and ripped. The place must have been vandalized, we turned back over some of the things. We went to the top floor and did the same then we went to check out the basement. It was the only part of the house that had power. It had an odd set up. A plate with needles with liquids in them, weapons, a lab table, a electric chair, and a saw. I backed up into duke and he wrapped his arms around me "it's alright babe...were safe here...Ill protect you..I have to tell you something." I shook in my shoes horrified "I'm a shadow...I was a human but I had a bad run into with some one and they made me this...creature..." I whimpered "I-I'd give you my heart....b-but...what if it's not right...what if it rejects you?" "Trust me liz...it won't..." I nodded and turned to face him I kissed his cheek sacredly "then do what you must to get my heart...I give it to you.." A blue orb glowed from where her heart was and a bright white silky rainbowish heart emerged and floated to duke. The heart floated to his chest and inside his chest his eyes glowed blue and the process finished liz fell over to the ground.

Ethan's pov
I searched and searched for Liz but it was no luck. Me and Duke had split up I felt a slight patter in my heart as we neared the woods. That was the feeling I got when Liz was nearby or in danger. I looked around and I ran as fast as i could. The sense lead me to a old worn down building with no power to it. All of the furniture was damaged but flipped upright chain on doors had been snapped. I heard sick coughing from downstairs from downstairs. The sense of the heart nearby had died out. I ran downstairs. Duke was on the ground coughing while Liz was on the ground lifeless. "Liz?!" I ran up to her and checked her pulse..there was none. I tried everything I could but duke cut in "she gave me the heart..." Dukes face began to change along with his structure even his arm disappeared. That's when it hit me. Duke was James...that's why duke insisted we split up. I growled and charged at James. There was one thing he forgot. His powers would wear off and he would be helpless. I charged but was stopped short by a sharp needle into my neck I fell over and grew numb and tired. I stared up at two men. One was duke the other James....James wasn't duke....there just working together?! I gasped for air and blacked out scared for Liz and myself. What would we do now?
