Chapter Two
“Move your arm, I can’t see the answers,” Cheryl hissed as she nudged my arm that was on my maths book out of the way. Maths was the only lessons we talked in, the only lesson she even acknowledged me and that was only because Cheryl was moved next to me, I was meant to be a ‘good influence’ on her.
I moved my arm as she had ordered me to and she quickly began scribbling down my answers, I didn’t mind though, I liked to just look at her for a bit, see the way her eyes took in the page, the way her hands scrawled down the notes carelessly,
“Psst, Kimberley,” I looked to my left, sat on the table next to me was Justin,
“Are we still on for the cinema tonight?” He said, leaning over, the eagerness in his eyes evident.
I felt Cheryl tense up immediately next to me, but why should she control me? “Uh, yeah sure,” I tried to smile, trying to ignore the temptation of being at Cheryl’s.
“Okay great,” he grinned, “I’ll meet you at half seven? I’ll walk you there,” he said quietly. I just nodded to agree. He was sweet, but I hope he doesn’t think this is going to be some kind of date, if I’m being honest I know the only reason I’m going his to try and prove Cheryl that I can resist her.
Cheryl had now changed her position, sat as far away as possible from me. Her face was hidden by her hair, and she rested her head on her hands, having given up on her work completely. Before I could say anything to her a familiar Irish twang had turned around from her desk in front of me, “Ohh Kimberley, you didn’t tell me you had a date!” She squealed.
“Nadine!” I hissed, glancing around to Justin, praying that he hadn’t heard, I didn’t need him getting anything else in his head, “I don’t have a date!” This time I glanced around to Cheryl, who had changed her position yet again, now she was sat bolt upright, twiddling her pen in between her fingers, like she was trying to listen to Nadine and I’s conversation without being to obvious, “We’re just going as friends,”
Nadine rolled her eyes, “yeah of course you are,” she smirked. I didn’t answer, deciding to instead carry on, or pretend to carry on, with the questions, “what’s wrong with you?” I looked up to see Nadine eyeing Cheryl up and down, “you’re normally all over Kimba looking for her answers,”
Cheryl scowled at her, “well this time I can do it on my own thanks.” It was weird that the two people I was closest to, in two very different ways, were completely different to each other , in fact I don’t think they could stand each other. Like my Mum, Nadine had an idea of Cheryl that was a negative one and I guess Cheryl didn’t help herself from snapping back at her, Cheryl never felt the need to impress others, so she didn’t bother.
“Miss Tweedy!” The teacher bellowed from across the classroom, “how many sums have you actually managed to do? Because to me it looks like you are just sat there either fiddling with your pen or chatting to Miss Coyle,”
“Whatever,” Cheryl mumbled back, she was in one of those moods, the teacher was not going to win this one.
“Get out, you obviously are in no mood to learn today,” he shouted, pointing towards the door.
“Gladly,” she replied sharply, throwing her books into her bag and storming out the room.
I could hear Nadine’s eyes rolling from here.

“You don’t have to be so bitchy to her Nadine,” I said, as we packed our things away and headed out the classroom door for lunch.
