She had met him at midnight. She saw him standing on a picturesque bridge that stood over a serene river. There was no commotion, aside from the loud chirps of crickets."What was a guy with looks such as his doing alone?" She thought. She didn't want to disturb him, but the gravel beneath her feet crunched like autumn leaves and every step forward felt like treading through molasses. Her heart pounded against her chest and she broke out in a frosty, cold sweat.
"Uh, h-hello there," She stuttered. "I, um, just want to say h-hi..."
She regretted every word that managed to slip through her tight lips. She wanted to speak to him but, what was there to say? The normally bustling rural town seemed surprisingly quiet at this time, but it could all just be in her head.
"Oh," He said. "And who might you be?"
Much to her surprise, he actually responded. A chilling breeze blew through the air, causing her rich, red hair to sway side to side. "How might I respond? Can I really mess up introducing myself?" She thought. "Ok, I'll ask him to tell me his name first, then he'll think I'm one of those cute, shy types."
"Um, can you tell me your name first?" She asked, cringing with anticipation of an unwelcome reply.
"Oh my name?" He replied unbothered by her 'shyness.' "My name it's-"
He looked over his shoulder and a figure in overalls and brown hair beckoned him over. He gasped.
"So sorry, but I have to leave-"
Click. She shut off the power on her PC.
"Damn this game. If dating in real life wasn't hard on its own." She thought to herself. "I'm not checking the wiki though."
She grabbed the can of cola off her desk and took a swig. She picked up a figure of the character from the game and held it out in front of her face.
"Ah, don't worry my sweet Cyrus. I'll get you soon enough."
She spun around it her chair, with the figure in her hands as if they were dancing. In her mind, they were....
"RIING! CALL FROM TERRENCE! RIING!" The telephone rang. She propelled her office chair forward, toward the home phone that was sitting face down on her desk and was covered in magazines. She picked up the phone.
"Hello? Terrence?"
"Hey, Irene can I come over?" The voice echoed back.
"Over? To my place? Why?" She asked as she took a sip of her cola before putting it down again and setting down the Cyrus figure as well.
"We always come to my house and I want to go to yours for a change."
"U-um," She responded nervously. "O-okay then."
"What's your address?"
"112 Waveleigh Drive."
"See you, sweetie."
"You too. Bye, I guess." She gently placed her phone down sweating.
"I can't show him...this... I'll have to hide it or... I'll just pretend that it isn't my room." She said unintentionally, as if her mind had its own voice. Clearly, she wasn't the brightest person in the world, for she had no siblings. She dressed into her "public clothes" and waited at the front door of the house. She stood on the stiff, blue carpet that led up the grand staircase that led up to the first floor of the house.
Outside, a black SUV pulled up to her drive way and Terrence, a sixteen year old who had brown hair and brown framed glasses, hopped out of the car and stared at the enormous house in front of him and walked down the cobble path and past the fancily cut shrubbery up to the doorway as Irene opened it and let him in.
He looked around in awe and shook his head.
"Could I use the washroom?" He asked, but in all honesty he just wanted to look around.
"Sure. It's up the stairs to the left, third door on the right."
The one thing she had forgotten was that her room was right beside the washroom. She flicked her hair over her shoulder and sat down on the couch. After this event, her life started to fall down like dominoes. Is it really bad though?
