Author's Note: Before you read this story, just keep in mind that I wrote this a long time ago, when I was around 8 years old... So please, take that into consideration while you read this book! Happy reading :)
Mirrors. Thomas hated mirrors. Mirrors were meant to be for fashion models or little girlies who always comb their hair perfectly each morning. They were useless, stupid and a waste of good money. Thomas was only fifteen, yet he already understood the nonsense behind them. And yet he-
"Thomas! Your chicken's going to be cold! Come down and eat!"
Ugh. Thomas hated it when someone interrupted his thoughts.
"Coming, Mom!"
Thomas lived in a small house not far from New Orleans. He was just a normal boy, well, apart from the fact that he was a bit too attached to video games, but that was normal for every person in his generation.
Thomas had dark hair which was cut short (his mother's idea; he didn't like it). He had brown eyes, and he was about a meter seventy tall. Basically, he was just like anyone in the world. A normal boy. Well, at least until it happened...
Sat around the kitchen table was his mother, father and sister, Judie (Jud for short) all busy eating their chicken (well, apart from his sister, who was vegetarian) Thomas dropped himself into his seat, wolfed down his chicken in no time and rushed straight up the metal stairs. He entered his bedroom, tripping over his cat, Bob (don't laugh. I know it sounds stupid). His computer he'd got for his 12th birthday lay on his desk. It suddenly turned on, and a notification appeared in the middle of the screen. It read, Game of War 3: Come back to destroy the enemy! Thomas ignored it and went to bed.
The next morning, Thomas walked to his school, St Hogarth. His first class was Maths with Mr. Dulbert (why did teachers at his school have such weird names?), a really nice teacher who always let Thomas do anything he wan-
Thomas felt a strong punch on his shoulder. He fell to the floor and looked up to see the smirking face of Gretelindea Mason (anyone who called her Gretelindea would get a punch on the nose, and believe me, you do not want to get hit by that kid).
"Hey, Tommy, still as weak as ever, aren't you?" The kids around Thomas laughed. As he looked up, he noticed that they had gathered around to watch the show.
Thomas tried to crawl away, only to bump into the wall behind him. Gretel- (oh, you know what? I'll just call her Gret) Anyway, Gret took a step forward, her face full of confidence. Thomas hoped she wouldn't notice as he crawled sideways, but sure enough, she did, and her foot connected with Thomas's head, sending him once again on the floor, dazed. Thomas felt anger bubbling inside him, threatening to burst out, but he managed to cool it down. The bell rang, signaling the start of school. Gret gave Thomas an "i'll-kill-you-later" stare, and marched off. The other children stared at Thomas like he had three eyes, and walked away a moment later. Thomas half-walked, half-limped to his Maths lesson, thinking of setting Gret's hair on fire.
At lunch time, Thomas walked on the school pitch, joining one of his best friends, Eduard (or Ed for short) near the cafeteria, who was sipping a can of coke.
"Ed!"
Ed turned his head, seeing Thomas.
Ed was very well built, with chocolate hair and coffee-brown skin. His eyes were an intimidating blue and he was taller than even the people in the grade above him. Ed could run much faster than Thomas and they had been best friends ever since they were little kids.
"That was quite a blow you got this morning!" Exclaimed Ed.
Thomas winced, remembering the hit on the head.
"Argh. That seriously hurt."
"You've really got to learn to defend yourself, Tom. You just can't keep letting yourself be beaten to a pulp like that. Especially by Gretelindea."
Ed smirked when he said that. Surprisingly enough, Ed wasn't scared at all by Gret.
"Well, I'd like to see you face that girl. She's literally a bull."
"Huh. Well I'd gladly get into a fight with her. The problem is, she usually avoids me."
That wasn't a surprise. Ed was stronger than most of the kids his age.
"Whatever. Anyway, where's Nick?"
Nick was another one of his best friends.
"He's absent, sick again. Well, you can't really say it's his fault. His brother had fever, so he passed it on to him."
"Well, he's a fast healer. He'll get well soon."
The bell rang for the end of lunch.
"Ooh no! I've got English class with Mr. Burley! He gives me the creeps with his enormous beard!" exclaimed Ed. (There we go. The name problem again.)
"Hard luck. I've got Science with Mrs. Leollitta (AARGH! Did her parents look up the worst names in the world before naming her?). Just think that right after English is the end of school." Thomas replied.
Then they ran off, not wanting to be late for their afternoon activities.
