I needed to find him. It felt like I had looked everywhere.

The gentle thumping of Dakota's paws approached me as I sat on the rock I awoke on that morning.

“Dakota,” I sighed effortlessly, “I still can't find him,” I sobbed softly into my hands.

More thumping of wolf paws approached,

“You didn't tell her did you?” I whispered to Dakota, nodding my head towards the trees near the rock where Tamsin's easily-recognisable rhythmic steps got noticeably louder. Dakota shook her head lightly. Breathing a small sigh of relief I raised my head to see Tamsin come into view looking more jovial than expected considering her mate had been missing for over two whole hours. Surely she would have noticed. I dipped my head to hide all the shame I felt as I was under the full impression it was my fault when realistically it was all Blane's.

Yet another set of thumping paws came into earshot. The crunching of dried twigs and leaves slowly came to a halt. Adjusting my view slightly so to see which of my friends I would have to admit my mistakes to something caught my eye. The distinctive shining of grey-bronze fur of Saber's large paws. This shocked me. I let a large breath I hadn't even realized I was holding release evenly from my lungs.

“Where?” I directing my question towards a very modest looking Tamsin. Pointing her noise south I realized exactly where Saber had been all this time. Home.

A small smile crept onto my lips. How obvious?

During conversation the other wolves approached from behind holding two very decent size fish in each of their two jaws with a smug but undeniably proud look written all over each of Kyra and Zair’s wet faces. The small smile on my lips grew at the goofy expression Zair was giving me until he dropped his fish dramatically and started digging in. Shaking my head, I turned my attention back to Tamsin and Saber.

“What now?” I questioned, turning our conversation instantly serious. Tamsin’s face said it all.

“We have to leave, don’t we?” If I wasn’t mistaken a small tear escaped the corner of her eye. She nodded softly. A small sob left my lips without permission. Instantly it gained the two younger wolves attention who were oblivious to the mood surrounding them as they demolished their fish.

Kyra got up onto her feet slowly then nudged Zair’s shoulder as to follow her and to stop eating his fish that he had began to eat again impatiently. He met her gaze and quickly got the message. They both gradually made their way over to the rest of the pack and myself.

Tamsin, as usual, made the first decision. Although not before nudging Saber, she started heading north away from any close civilisation.

We were lost as far as I knew. We were way, way out of my comfort zone. The tree’s had gotten distinctively thicker and I was struggling to stay standing with the uneven land beneath my feet. I prayed Tamsin knew where she was going. All my faith had been placed in her, not like I had much of a choice anyway but she kept turning at different landmarks like she owned the place. At one point I was convinced we were lost Saber and Tamsin seemed to be having some form of an argument on which way to go. In the end I think it was Tamsin to give in and we went Saber’s way, we followed his lead until we reached a remarkable water fall.
