Mae waited in front of the music shop. It wasn't a very cold morning, nor was it very hot either.
Beckham and Mae had agreed to meet by the local CD -and sometimes records- store. It had been Beckham's favorite place to go. Mae didn't argue, for she had barely left the house except when she went to class, so she didn't know anywhere really, except the bookstore a few streets down from where she lived. They had figured out that they lived in the same city, but different areas of said city.
They agreed on 10:45 in the morning, but Mae was early, worried that he might be waiting for her before then. She hadn't seen him since she arrived, or at least the description of him.
Brown hair, glasses, pale skin, and brown eyes, he had said.
Mae was getting anxious and started to absently wring her hands.
Beckham was walking down the street towards the quaint little shop, looking down at his feet. He looked at his watch, 10:40 a.m., it read.
I'm early, he thought, he dipped his head, she won't be here.
But he looked up at the store, which was still a few yards away, to see if she was there early, too.He saw a girl, standing in front of the store, wringing her hands, her back towards him.
The girl had shoulder length hair and from what he could tell, she wasn't very pale nor tan.
Is it really her?, Beckham thought, Is it really Mae?.He walked faster, hurrying towards the girl.
Mae had heard footsteps behind her and she turned around. A boy who fit Beckham's description stood in front of her.
They both took a sharp intake of breath.
"Mae?" He sounded breathless, but his voice was something she couldn't describe. It was lovely.
"Beckham?" She asked in response.
God, she's so beautiful, he thought to himself, smiling.Mae laughed at his lopsided grin. She ran to him and hugged him, he hugged her back.
After a few moments, they let go of each other just enough to see the other's face.
Each took in the other's features, like a sponge.
It had been nine months since Beckham had been drunk and called Mae on accident. They had built a strong friendship, maybe even more.
For the entire day, they had enjoyed each other's company. They went to the bookstore -of course both had bought books-, the coffee shop for when it got colder, saw a movie, went to grab some late lunch, and Mae was introduced to some of Beckham's friends, Emmet, Brian, and Andy included.
Nearing the end of the day, Beckham had driven Mae home, but she fell asleep in his car during the way.
When they reached Mae's house, he woke her up.
Mae was stared at first, but then relaxed. She looked up at her home, not wanting the day to end.
"I'm free Saturday and Sunday if you want to do something." Beckham said, sensing sadness from Mae of it being the end if their adventure for today.
Her face brightened and she smiled, "Yeah, I can do that, I mean I'll have church on Sunday, but I can do Saturday."
"Okay," he laughed at her enthusiasm, "let me walk you up to your door."
He got out and opened the door for Mae and they both walked silently up to her front step.
"Well, I guess this is goodbye until our next phone call or meeting."
"I guess so," he said, softly.
They had gotten closer to one another.
She noded ever so slightly, and he took her face between his hands, softly and kissed her.
She kissed him back.
