When they said that money was power, no one was lying. It is power and a power that was rarely ever used for the good of people or the world in general. I expected a lot of Damon and I expected to see him in different situations. But seeing Damon behind bars was not one of them. I wonder how much money Raphael had paid those men to arrest Damon: Maybe a few weeks ago, if I saw him like this, I would say he deserved it for what he used to do to me. But right now, my heart constricted painfully and my chest heaved with agony for him.

"It will be okay." Damon said, putting his hands over mine which were clutching the prison bars tightly. I wanted to pull them off but who was I? Not even quarter a Superman. "Raphael always has tricks up his sleeve. This is not new."

"So this has happened before?" I asked while Damon nodded slowly.

"It did." Damon said. "But I was never thrown into jail before. Raphael must be really upset this time."

"I am not." A voice said from behind me and I then understood why Damon's grasp on my hands suddenly tightened. "Upset, that is." Raphael clarified, approaching to stand next to me. The same triumphant smile played on his lips and it turned into a crooked one when he looked at me. I narrowed my eyes at him.

"Then what is it, Lancaster?" Damon asked, giving him a leveled look. "You and I both know that I never vandalized any of your property. I am not that low."

"True." Raphael dug his hands into the pockets of his dress pants, leaning forward to whisper that lightly to Damon. "I just want to see you suffer, cousin. And do you know what else would only kill you right now?"

"No." Damon rolled his eyes. I was surprised at how he was trying to keep his composure. The Damon I knew would be sizzling with unkempt anger but this one was as tranquil as the ocean on a summer day. Maybe he didn't want to give more pleasure to Raphael than he already was by seeing him suffer. "Enlighten me!"

"Your father, Damon," Raphael started and for some reason my heart skipped a dreadful beat, "had assigned me as the new CEO for your companies. And guess whose fault this is?" Raphael looked at me right then and Damon pushed me away from Raphael through the bars. "That's right. Yours, cara mia. You think I didn't know of everything that went on?" Raphael continued, looking back at Damon. "And your brother. Oh, your brother. What an idiot! He should've taken the position once it was offered to him. Like that the corporations would've stayed in the Reynolds family. Too bad it's Lancaster's now."

Something clicked to me right then but at the same time something else did not make sense. What was obvious was that Raphael had some pent up anger and revenge towards Damon and now was the most appropraite time to blow it up in his face. What did not make sense was how Gregory Reynolds handed the CEO position to a non-Reynold. When I first met him, wasn't it him who said that Damon and I must have a male child in order to keep the business in the family? What the heck happened to that theory now?

"You can shove my companies up your vengeful asś for all I care, Raphael." Damon replied, giving him a lazy smile. "At least my brother did not turn his back on me for some money and my wife did not leave me for a man who she saw was better than me, right, Lancaster?"

I did not understand anything. But whatever Damon was conveying had turned the tables and the ball was now in Damon's court. He somehow had the upper hand as I watched Raphael turn red in the face from anger and clenching jaw and then his hands by his side.

"Who cares?" Raphael recomposed himself, although his resolution had weakened abviously. "Both Edward and Scarlett are gone. My brother in some prison and that bítch six feet underground."
