CHAPTER 6: Get a photo

"Isn't that my turtleneck?"

The cacophony of voices, overlapping each other echoed in Rowan's ears as she let them settle as background noise. Fluttering her eyes open, the jarring fluorescent lighting bring her to consciousness once more. Last night had been one of discord, but at this point she had grown accustomed to sleepless nights.

He had been back, drunk, of course, but that came as no surprise.  Though used to the noise, no matter how long, Rowan simply couldn't grow accustomed to the routine of hiding under her bed and blocking her ears, squeezing her eyes shut till tears leaked through the cracks.

No matter how many times.

"We need more information on Dogboy." Rowan said, rubbing her eyes as she pushed herself up off the fluorescent bean bag. Fatigue materialised itself on the girl through heavy bags on her  olive skin. The past few days had been rather boring, the initial excitement of summer wearing off as school drew nearer and nearer. With school came the stress of university applications, work experience, responsibilities that Rowan did not want to face. Even the thought of recent events with a certain King boy was enough to pull Rowan from her stress-induced slump.  The boy in question had been on her mind lately, especially since the tree incident. Every time it replayed in her mind she wanted to scream because she can't believe she did that. She talked to dogb-no, Elliott. She talked to Elliott King.

"We do." Charlie said frowning, as she separates the girl from her thoughts. A hand went through her bush of curly hair, emerging from the other side. The late afternoon sun streamed through the open entrance of the small shop, bathing the sleepy girls in golden light. "We can put it next to dog boy's profile in the scrapbook." She proceeds to pull said book out of her backpack. The tattered, dog-eared moleskin was a birthday gift intended for song lyrics, turned stalking database.

Lucy lifted herself from her slumped position. They were in Mugs, a petite coffee shop just a small walk from the bus stop; not too close to the bourgeoisie of the affluent West End that they felt out of place but much nicer than shops round their end. It had became their "spot" over the past years, like that of Central Perk from Friends or MacLaren's Pub in How I Met Your Mother. So much so that the owner, a short balding man with a youthful sense of fashion didn't bother kicking them out for hogging all the seats and not ordering anything.

Lucy rubbed at her eyes, her eyeliner smudging slightly. She too was looking ruffled, her night had been spent on Stranger Things and the regret showed on her face. "Remember what happened last time we tried to take a photo of the guy."

The group of girls glanced upwards as if recalling the events of the previous photo attempt. Rowan scrunched her nose, Joy grimaced and Lucy shook her head. It certainly had not been pretty. Plus, after the ruckus they had caused it was fairly evident that they might not be so warmly welcomed next time.

Charlie shuddered once at the thought of it. Crossing her legs into a basket she turned to the rest eagerly. "Yeah, well it won't be like last time. We'll be prepared." She said, a smile already creeping into her face.

Lucy side-eyed her carefully, she didn't know what the girl meant by "preparation" and she wasn't sure she wanted to find out either. She was well aware of his far Charlie was willing to go to pursue one her "projects", considering the amount of reckless situations they had gotten themselves in over the years, they could've technically been arrested more than a few times. Forging a bus-pass, the whole vandalism ordeal, many accounts of trespassing and more than a few actions that could be deemed as disorderly conduct. All in the name of fun. The girl had to be stopped many a time before she really landed herself in jail, making Lucy wonder what she would do without her.
