Jane found herself searching for Luisa at lunch. It wasn't too difficult, really. She was quite literally in a corner of the cafeteria, staring down quietly at what looked like a novel. The table she was at was full of other people, not talking and staring down as well, at their food or gadgets.
She had a hunch that these people weren't exactly popular.
'Hey.' Jane placed her tray in front of Luisa.
'Hey,' Luisa's head sprang up eagerly. 'Didn't expect to see you here. How was your class?'
Jane was contemplating if she should tell Luisa the truth. Seeing her beaming face, she settled for a short 'it was good, and you?''Got A for extra credit. Didn't get into the school play though.' Her face fell and she stabbed at her mashed potatoes half-heartedly. 'But I'm pretty sure I got sabotaged.'
Jane widened her eyes. 'How?'
'That blonde vixen,' Luisa muttered under her breath. 'she sprinkled talcum powder to the mic I was using. So naturally my voice came out all wrong. I was so mortified I didn't notice it was tampered until she asked for a change of mics after I was done.'
'That's not fair. You have to tell someone.' Jane's sense of morality was firing up.
'You should know something about me.' Luisa sighed. 'I'm known as the girl who cries wolf.'
'Are you?' Jane said cautiously.
'Yeah actually, I'm Petra's sister.' Luisa pulled a face. 'Of course not. I just find myself in very unfortunate circumstances which I prefer not to reveal.'
'Let's not talk about her.' Jane clenched her jaw. 'I kind of want to join an after school activity though.'
'Oh, that. Since you're a freshman, you have to take up a sports module.'
'Sports? What about performing arts, or clubs-'
'Nope. Sports for the first year, second year you can pick anything.' Luisa answered.
Jane could picture it already, all lined up nicely in her mind. Her getting hit in the face by a ball, her being tackled on the field, her dribbling a ball towards their own goalpost.
Well, it wouldn't feel so embarrassing if it haden't actually happened.
'Just pick gym with Coach Fritz. She's like in her second trimester of her pregnancy and always goes MIA during lessons.' Luisa said helpfully.
'Sounds good.' Jane nodded absentmindely.
Her mind had already drifted to the next topic on her let's overworry about something every day list. This time it was about the first writing assignment that Mr Charez had given them. It could be an eye opening experience or a life lesson. Something that can be seemingly insignificant but very impactful. Jane's life was full of memorable moments, but she can't help but feel it would pale in comparison to her classmates. What was worse was that Victoria would be critiquing her work. She cringed whenever she recalled the disdainful scowl that seemed to be permanently etched on her face whenever she glanced at Jane.
Jane got a sudden brainwave. It was an idea that was really quite ridiculous but it just might work.
'Hey, what play are they putting on?' she asked Luisa.
'It's a musical. Hamilton. It's amazing.' Luisa's eyes glazed over in wonder. 'I can see myself as one of the Schuyler sisters. Preferably Angelica.'
'Call me crazy, but,' Jane took a deep breath. I'm going to get both of us a role.'
A/N: there is absolutely no correlation between the play I selected for them to potentially be in and my own obsession with Hamilton. Not at all. :P as usual, please leave a vote or comment ane tell me if you liked this chapter! Sorry for the sporadic updates, but I guess I will be continuing this book!! xx
