Fruitless Dreams of Tomorrow

We lie here in our beds,

Staring into the darkness of night,

Dreaming, hoping, wishing

For a better tomorrow.

Fields of green,

Hills of flowers,

Frolicking with friends,

And pictures in the clouds.

These are the fruitless dreams of tomorrow,

These are the hopes that have died inside,

No more sorrow, no more pain, we want the light

to come again,

To release us from our lonely prisons.

A happy family around a warm fire,

Sharing tales of ghosts and roasted marshmallows,

And then snuggling up in their warm sleeping bags,

Eager for a new tomorrow.

These are the fruitless dreams of tomorrow,

The things that will never be,

For we have all been trapped by the darkness,

Enslaved to our bitter emotions.

Every waking day is misery,

Every hour, every minute some new catastrophe,

Nothing is right, nothing is good, all is naught but pain.

Hot coco, pumpkin pie

Presents around the Christmas tree

Candy canes and chocolate coins,

Laughter, joy and a big family.

These are the fruitless dreams of tomorrow,

A means of escape from the cruel world,

A wish for a better life,

No more dirt, no more abuse, no more hurt,

No more loneliness.

These are the fruitless dreams of tomorrow. We are all dead inside.
