A boy with dirty blonde hair and sad, deep, grey-blue eyes walked through Northwood's campus. As he walked towards the office, he received strange, steady looks from the students around him. And he could hear whispers all around him, whispers shouldn't be that loud.
"Who's that?"
"What's his name?"
"I've never seen that it before."
"I think that's the new guy the principal was talking about."
He stepped into the office greeted with cool air. "Hello, are you the new student? Mason..what was it again?" The office lady smiled and gave him a puzzled expression. He replied, "Gray. My name is Mason Gray."Mason looked down at the card the office lady gave him. He walked through the dorm hallway and searched for his room. All the empty rooms were taken so he had to share a room with two other people. Wonderful. He finally arrived and left three knocks at the door. A guy a little taller than him answered. He had dark brown hair, almost black, and stunning eyes, like crystals. "Hi. Who are you..?" The stranger asked. "Uh-I'm Mason Gray. I'm your new roommate." Then there was silence. "Mason...uh hold on one second please just a second," the stranger gave him a smile and close the door a little. He could hear two people having a conversation inside.
"REN TACHIBANA GET YOUR ASS OUT HERE"
"WAT!"
"WHOS MASON??"
"OOOOHHH YEAH I FORGOT TO TELL YOU WERE GETTING A NEW ROOMMATE NAMED MASON GRAY.......OW CALUM WHATTHEFUCK YOU DIDNT HAVE TO SLAP ME!"
The stranger walked back out, along with another person shorter than both of them. "Hello, I'm sorry for the wait. My name is Ren Tachibana and this is Calum Morgenstern. Welcome to your home for the next year of hell!" Ren held the door wide open. Calum was standing inside with his arms crossed. Mason gave them a nervous smile and walked into their "welcoming" room.Later that day, Mason was walking next to Calum and Ren, who were walking towards a girls dorm room. He'd never actually talked to a girl his age. Not for a long time. "Hey!" A girl piped up as she opened the door. She gave Calum a peck on the cheek, then looked over to Mason standing very awkwardly away from them. "Oh..who's this?" The girl asked. Calum explained briefly of their situation as the girl nodded along. Before he knew it, Mason was pulled into their room. It smelled of sweet perfume and flowers. "Oh yeah sorry if it's a little messy I'm lazy as fuCk! My name is Cassia Fairchild but you can call me Cass and that's Aria Rosewood!" She gestured towards a small girl sitting next to a window with a laptop in her lap. She was really really pretty, but to be honest, Cass was prettier to Mason. She had gorgeous brown flowing hair and the most vibrant eyes he'd ever seen. Blue-green. His favorite color. He sat on the couch answering various questions as he constantly glanced at Calum and Cass together with envy.
"So tell us about yourself, Mason." Mason was sitting on the floor with the rest of his new friends. "Well I don't really think you'd want to hear about me, so why don't you tell me about yourselves...?" They gave him confused looks. "No of course we'd want to know about you..is something wrong?" Aria asked. Mason took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and began explaining. "My life hasn't been easy for a long time. My life is literally a living hell. From the time I was born to when I was about seven or eight, my parents loved me. They always hugged and kissed me, they always cooked my favorite meals and everything a good parent would do. Then when I turned seven or eight, my mom began doing drugs. Like every day. She couldn't even remember who I was. My dad drank a lot. He started getting angry really easily. And he um...he always abused me for the smallest things. Not being smart, which wasn't my fault because he never let me go to school, for falling asleep from crying and sleeping all day, for simply not bringing him a beer fast enough. Sometimes if he were passed out on the couch from drinking too much, then I would just sneak out and walk to school. Then one day, when I was about nine, I got a new little sister. My parents never hurt her, but they never took care of her. I was basically her mother until she was four or five years old. Then one day, I didn't clean my room properly. And my dad he...he started hitting my little sister. Because she was closer to him. She was just a baby so I tried to protect her but then he...." By now he was crying. Not sobbing, but tears were streaming down his face. very fast. "He killed her. Right in front of me. He locked me in my room that night. And I kept punishing myself for this. If I would've fixed my bed sheets more neatly, and put the books in the right place, then she would be with me right now. My dad blamed me for her death, and I was arrested. During that time I had a brother. My dad hates him, but he hurt me more than him. He's two years younger than me. My entire life, my brother and I have looked out for each other. I was once kidnapped, and I tried to call my dad but all he did was say 'fuck off' then block my number. I fought my way out, but once I got home my dad wouldn't even let me inside, so I slept in the shed that night. My brother sneaked out in the middle of the night to bring me blankets and food. He took a beating that night though...and about a month ago...he disappeared. Our parents died before that so we lived at an orphanage. My mom was in a car crash and my dad committed suicide. One night, it was really late and he still wasn't home at the orphanage. He was reported as missing, and has been gone ever since. There's even a possibility that he's dead..."
(Mason's POV)
The room was filled with silence. Cass, Aria, and Ren stared at me with tear filled eyes. Calum stared at me with sorrow. Then, right then and there, Cass held out her arms gesturing for me to hug her. I went to her and buried myself into her warm embrace. Then I started bawling my eyes out. I haven't had a real hug since my brother disappeared...
More arms began wrapping around me. I felt so loved for once. For once...I was happy.
