Chapter 4 - You can't run forever

"Ohmygucci! My brain's just bursting with ideas," James squealed a bit too excited causing Tilly and I to roll our eyes hiding he amusement in them.

"For the finale of my award winning performance, with the stage concealed in smoky white light, and maybe descending flamingo dancers on the side, I'm thinking maybe a grand glitter explosion, centre stage?" he exclaimed animatedly with his arms in the air.

It's been two weeks since Miss Happy informed us about the showcase and James was well on his way to having everything figured out. With him in dictator mode, I pitied his partner and their very limited input. It's not like the poor thing had a choice, James could be very intimidating and he wasn't afraid of asserting authority. In fact, I think it made him kinda kinky.

Speaking of partners, Roman and I have made absolutely no progress. I might as well be a solo act. Music lessons were the epitome of awkwardness and to make things worse, aside from Ethan, my brothers and sisters were currently in the middle of a feud with the neighbours.

Last weekend, we had several people who travelled from near and far for our 'yard sale' knocking on our door all day. Apparently we were moving to Switzerland and were having a sale of nothing over ten dollars. Funny thing was, we had no idea what in the freaking world they were talking about.

Clueless!

After spending the whole day apologizing to annoyed angry people for the misunderstanding, Shane and Prince stumbled over to our front yard holding their stomachs struggling to breathe through their laughter. It wasn't hard to figure out who was behind the scheme.

No one had made a move for revenge, but it's only a matter of time. I know my siblings too well and they're far too devious to let pay back slide.

"How about you Evie?" asked Tilly, pulling me out of my flashback. "Have you and Evans sorted out your piece yet?"

"Sorted? We haven't even started," I grumbled.

Without noticing it, my eyes wondered over to the other side of the cafeteria and landed on the handsome human being who sneaked his way into our conversation. I surveyed the way his hand glided through his messy hair; how his shoulders lifted in rhythm with his breathing and the way he politely removed his arm from the death grip of manicured nails beside him. I wanted to look away, I swear! But I couldn't.

As if he could feel my gaze, his eyes met mine. The blue in his never seized to take my breath away. He raised his eyebrow in question as I noticed I was shamelessly still staring at him and I quickly peeled my eyes away to focus on my food.

Good one idiot, if you wanted to creepily observe him, at least don't get caught, I mentally scolded myself.

The bell rang signalling the end of last period.

I sighed in relief.

Music was torture, mainly because my partner refused to cooperate as my existence went completely unacknowledged throughout the whole period. Frankly, it was getting on my nerves.

Screw this!

I chucked our empty composition sheets on the ground as he left the room, again, completely ignoring my existence.

After a moment of staring at the paper littering the ground, I sighed in defeat and picked the them back up. This was 50% of our grade.

"Hang in there sweetie, he's bound to come around," James comforted.
