Chapter 5

At about 4:35 in the morning I decided then would be a good time to hunt.  I knew that if I didn’t hunt every other day I wouldn’t have any self-control when a sunny day came around.  At this time I knew I would need to drink animal’s blood.  When I came back to my new apartment I threw my clothes in the wash and took a shower.  When I came out of the shower I heard a noise in the living area.  I knew someone was trying to be quiet because it was way too faint for human ears.  Whatever it was in the room was running its nails across the sofa.  I only had the clothes in the dryer so I hurried up and wrapped myself in a towel.  When I came to the doorway I saw someone standing in there looking through my bag.  I looked closely at the person and saw it was Clement.

“Clement? What are you doing here?” I asked demanding an answer.

“Oh. You almost scared me there. I was just coming by to see how you were doing.  Marvin told me to keep an eye on you. Did you know that?” He seemed like he was up to something.  Marvin always told me to watch myself around Clement.  He had the least control out of all of us.

“No I didn’t. And I have the feeling he didn’t really say that. So, Clement, why don’t you tell me the real reason you’re here?” I didn’t need any drama while starting over again.

“I just came here to warn you that I’m watching.  I know you’re going to a new high school and I don’t know if I like that idea so much.” He was threatening me and I didn’t even know what he was talking about.

“I think it’s time you leave now.” He walked out slowly and I watched him the entire way.  I had no clue what he was talking about.  I knew that during my last few months with the coven he started to gain erratic behavior.  He acted as almost he had no consequences for his actions.  I hurried over to the door and slammed it shut locking all the locks very tightly.  I knew I had to be careful knowing Clement would be watching me.  I had a feeling that if it got far enough I could beat him in a fight.  I just wanted to have a normal day though.  When my clothes were done I put them on and went to town.  It was still only 5:23 so I figured I would sneak into a clothing store and buy some up-to-date fashionable clothing.  I decided to take some more band t-shirts and a lot of skinny jeans.  I picked out only a few dresses and some converse.  I didn’t want to get any flashy over-the-top clothes, just regular teenage stuff.  When I got back home I put all of my clothes in my closet and chose a new outfit for the day.

I picked out a dress for my dinner with Chester.  I was looking forward to spending more time with him.  It was around time for school to start so I decided to leave.  When I arrived there the students were just beginning to fill the halls.  I quickly went to my locker and saw Jenni standing there. I waved and gave her a smile. She did the same back.

“Hey. How was your first night in Portland? Did you go out and sight see?” She seemed really happy just like the day before.

“Hi. I just decided to go shopping hence the new outfit.” I lied, but what else was I supposed to do. Tell her the truth?

“Oh. It looks really awesome. I love Avenged Sevenfold.”  I had never even heard of this band but I needed cool clothes to wear.  I went to my first class. When I sat in my seat Chester wasn’t even there.  After the bell rang I saw him run frantically into the room and scramble to sit next to me.

“Whoa. Better be faster next time.” I joked playfully. He was breathing really hard and that’s when he scent hit me.  I had never smelled blood so mouthwatering in all my years.  If I hadn’t spent all those years training I would’ve killed him right there.  I knew that tonight I would be with him alone and I began to feel scared.  I clenched my jaw tight and balled up my fists under the table.  I started to hold my breath because that’s what was causing me to smell this intoxicating scent.  I had just hunted this morning, and it still felt as if I was dying of hunger.

“Yeah, my car broke down on the way here.  I had to walk the rest of the way. It sucked. I haven’t worked out in years.” When he finished talking I realized I’d never looked at his body before. He was tall. About 6’2” I would say.  He had a slender body, but it had very muscular features.  I was sure he had abs under his black V-neck shirt.  I couldn’t believe it when he said he hadn’t worked out in years, because to me it looked like he did every day.  I think he noticed my staring at his body because he quickly spoke up again.  “How are you today?”

“Oh, I’m just as happy as usual.” It sounded nerdy but it was the only thing I could croak out.  I kept my jaw tight the entire class and when the bell rang to leave for our next class I was already half way out the door.  When the day came around to lunch time I went to the nurse and she said that my whole body felt really cold and that I should probably go home so I followed her directions.  I knew I would have to give myself a break if I was going to go to dinner tonight.  He sent me a text asking if I was going to be okay for our date, and I told him that I only had a little headache and it should be gone by then.  I then proceeded to tell him my address because I finally moved in all of my stuff.  After I finished talking to him I went hunting again.  When I got back I put on my new dress.  It was a black strapless cocktail dress that was tight around my hips.

When I finished getting dressed I heard a knock on my door. I opened it to a very excited Chester.  His eyes scanned up and down my body, and I think his jaw almost hit the floor. I looked over myself as well confused at what was so jaw-dropping.

“Am-am I overdressed.” I asked faking innocence.

“N-no! N-not at all. Y-you look great!” He rushed out what he was saying, almost yelling it.  I had never seen anyone so nervous in my life.

“Are you sure? I mean I could go change right now…” I motioned on.

“No. Don’t do that. Let’s go.” He reached for my hand and I pulled away to grab my purse.  I couldn’t let him touch my hand and feel the cold radiating off of it.

“Okay. Let’s go.” We left and got into his car.  We made it to the restaurant but the entire way we talked it up. During dinner we never ran out of things to say.  He ordered a steak while I got a bowl of Italian soup.  I was nervous about eating it because I didn’t know what could happen, but nothing ever did.  When he took me home afterward I invited him inside.  We sat on my bed and watched T.V. until his mom called and told him to come home. That was around 9:35.  I just watched TV the rest of the night.
