Trouble
Chapter 6
“It won’t work if you keep doing that!” Chester was becoming frustrated at me in Trig. I kept faking confusion by multiplying random numbers.
“I’m sorry I just don’t get it.” I stated innocently. I knew that faking was wrong, but I didn’t need him knowing about my many college degrees.
“Well, then I guess we can work on it more tomorrow….that is if you’re not busy,” I could see the nervous grin playfully tugging around the corners of his lips. They were oddly full for a guy. They weren’t too big; they had this light pink tint that went perfect with the golden colored tan that was light on his skin. The tan wasn’t even close to dark, but next to me he looked like he lived in Florida. I couldn’t stop focusing on his lips, and the way all of his features complimented them perfectly. As my eyes travelled down I noticed that he was wearing a grey shirt that held close to his muscular chest. I couldn’t stop staring, my eyes finally made my way up to his perfectly messy chocolate brown hair.
“Um, Beth? Are you okay?” I hadn’t realized how long I’d been staring at his god like body.
“Oh! Yeah, sorry I was just daydreaming I guess. Is it starting to get sunny out?” I remembered the news saying something about having a nice day for once.
“Yeah. It’s probably gonna be the only one this month.” He seemed really happy that the sun was coming up. This, I guess, was our second date. He surprised me by showing up at my apartment. He had no idea about my vampirism, or that anything was off about me. I never let him touch my ice cold skin, though. He took me to his car and made me close my eyes. When he told me to open them we were in a soft, grassy meadow in the middle of nowhere. Off in the distance I could see a lake. I could see the sun bursting through the clouds, and fear began to creep over me. I was still trying to get a grip on my control without the sun. Every day I hunted before school and now I didn’t even have a chance to prepare for our date. I hadn’t even noticed that my eyes had changed from their glowing red to topaz.
“Did your eyes change color or something?” Crap! He seemed to notice everything.
“No, I mean yes I had contacts, and for some reason they made my eyes red. Weird right?” I was hoping he wouldn’t notice my off behavior.
“Yeah, weird. Are you okay? I mean you’ve been acting really odd over the past couple days.”
“Yeah I’m fine.”
“Really? Cause I don’t think so.” He was starting to get on my nerves. Why couldn’t he just let this go?
“Yes, Chester I’m fine.” I said through clenched teeth. At that moment I could feel the sun hit my back and thirst raid my thoughts. I could taste the sweet venom filling my mouth, and I was not looking forward to the resisting burn I would get from swallowing it back this time.
“Woah! Dude, what is wrong with you? Your eyes just got jet black.” I couldn’t control myself and I felt this battle couldn’t be fought any longer. I tried to advert my eyes away from Chester’s but couldn’t. I needed his blood in my system. All I wanted was a taste. I could see the fear in his eyes and my iced over heart began to warm. When this happened my everlasting thirst let go, and gave me enough time to build the strength I needed, and regain control over myself. I swallowed hard and let the venom’s burn run down my throat. I deserved it. This was the only punishment I could take other than death.
I relaxed my features and the awkward tension between us heightened. I then took that moment to look around my surroundings and noticed that the only reason my urge to kill lessened was because the sun was hidden behind the clouds briefly.
