Emma felt devastated. She's never been alone in New France now she has her own child to raise she feels guilty like it's her fault. The guiltiness didn't help her open wound, she couldn't do anything about it. She was slowly dying without realizing it.
She had nothing to do about it. She didn't have enough money to afford medical help. So later that night she muttered her last words to Isabelle "Keep yourself safe you'll have a great life ahead of you if you do that."
