"Ready, Swan?"

Beau sighed into the cheap, dingy locker room mirror. His eyebrows pulled together in a slight frown as he held onto his football helmet tightly with his left hand. Mike made an appearance in the corner of the mirror, leaning against the entryway of the bathroom section on the room.

"Yeah. What about you, Newton?" Beau asked, smirking as Mike rolled his eyes.

"Get moving!" Dalton, the team captain called, exiting the locker room but not before slamming the logo of the school's mascot, a Titan, on the carpeted floor.

Shoving his helmet onto his head, Beau followed after Mike out the locker room. Even before he'd exited the locker room, he heard the pounding of feet on the bleachers from outside. The florescent yellow blazing into the air on hand-made signs and school T-shirts.

"Amazing." Mike breathed, stopping for a second to admire their supporters.

"Bright." Beau muttered, ignoring Mike's snort as he jogged lightly towards the bench on the side of the field, taking a seat second to last.

"Alright, circle up." Dalton called, clapping his gloved hands together as the team gathered around. Beau listened to his captain intently, only looking for key phrases like what play they were doing before glancing more securely at the stands.

Bella wasn't there, being that she was in Port Angeles with Jessica, Angela, and Lauren. Which Beau was extremely grateful for. It'd seemed while Beau had been dodging Lauren all week, she'd finally gotten the hint and had asked Tyler out instead.

The only familiar faces in the stands were Tyler and Eric, both being here for him and Mike. They were wearing body paint, a bright yellow on Eric and a cobalt blue on Tyler. They had foam fingers and were slamming their feet down on the bleachers with the other students.

"Alright, get on the field." Dalton shouted, and Beau squirted a bit of water into his helmet, collecting it in his mouth before swallowing it and following Dalton onto the field.

Dalton took the middle, while Beau took his position as the wide receiver. Dalton was muttering things to each of his guards on either side, things that Beau couldn't hear as he tried to tune out the roaring crowd.

Steading himself, Beau sucked in a smooth breath, and smiled a bit at Mike's encouraging words being thrown to him from Mike's place on the bench.

The sound of the whistle blew in Beau's ears as he began to run up the field. His legs carrying him quickly as he dodged through the bodies, trying to find the weaknesses in the defensive lines of the orange jerseys of their opponents.

Beau kept running, waiting for Dalton to get the right calculations for throwing before he was at the 20 yard line. His hands open as Dalton threw the ball through the air, sending it in a perfect spiral as Beau tried moving out of the way of his assigned guard to catch the football.

Beau gripped the ball tightly before tucking it into his side. He made it a few more feet into the 15th yard line before he was shoved and slamming against the ground. His helmet rattled and Beau's heart pumped quickly in his chest as he held the ball towards the ground, as the weight on top of him began to lesson.

With another whistle, his team and himself got into position on the 15th yard line, and that was when Beau saw him. A boy ahead of himself on the offensive team was a boy his age with a right eye that was bloody and swollen shut. His bottom lip was busted, and an ugly shade of dark red and covered in crusted blood.

As if feeling his staring, the boy caught his eye and rose an eyebrow. Looking away, Beau stared down at his gloves, waiting for the whistle to chime in the air. Raising his eyes once more, Beau saw that the black eye was still visible as well as the busted lip when the whistle blew, knocking him back into focus.
