It was now around late afternoon and I was cleaning up the cafe when I heard footsteps and voices talking. I quickly stopped what I was doing and quietly walked out of the cafe and stopped near the wenches that controlled the cage doors. Jack came out of the storage bay and came over to me and we both crouched down.

After about a minute a group of people walked in. There were four girls, two boys and a dog. The girl that seemed to be leading them looked a lot like one of my friends from before the virus, Amber.

One of the boys went to look around the downstairs part of the mall. After a few minutes, he came back, saying he didn't find anyone and that the place had been looted.

Suddenly loud footsteps were heard and three people marches in, the leader looking angry.

"That wasn't very nice now was it? Now I'm gonna count to ten, and you're gonna hand over what's  in that bag. 1, 2, 3, 4--"

Jack and I decided we would cut him of so we used the wenches and trapped them in the cage.

"4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10." We finishes counting off the numbers as we walled down the stairs towards the group that wasn't trapped.

"Not so tough now are you?" Jack teased the trio.

"Open up now and we won't hurt you" the leader said with a not so nice look on his face.

"I think we'll leave them where they are" I told him.

"Now I believe you have something to say to us" Jack said to the group.

"What do you mean?" the Amber lookalike said, confused.

"Well in my day it was thanks, but times are changing" Jack said.

"Thanks" she said"what about them?" She says pointing towards the cage.

"You'll be fine, they can't get out" he told her"I'm Jack and this is my sister Kalani" he introduced himself.

"I'm Amber, this is Dal, Patsy, Salene, Cloe and Paul" she said.

"Wait, Lani?" Amber said.

"Hey Amber" I said, i can't  believe I didn't recognize her.

All of a sudden she engulfed me on a warm hug she only gave to certain people. We pulled away only to see people staring at us.

"We were friends before the virus" she explained to everyone.

"Well its getting late, we should find somewhere to sleep, I have a blanket for the little ones, the rest of us are just going to have to make do" Amber said.

"Uh, we can go one better" Jack and I said, smirking.

We led them upstairs into the old furniture shop, leaving the trio in their cage for the night.

They saw the beds and immediately started calling dibs.

"My room is down in the old grocery store, if you need me at any point" I told them.

We all walked to the cafe and had dinner of corned beef from the tins and I cooked it on the gas camping stove we had.

Jack went to bed after saying goodnight. And the rest of us went back to the furniture shop and Amber and I tucked everyone in and I gave the younger ones a kiss on the forehead before hugging Amber and saying goodnight before heading to my room and turning in for the night.
