Chapter 3- the corner of 13th and Elm

Chapter 3

Ty

I arrive at the academy in seconds and head off to find Jelani even though it had only been a day since we found him on the streets with horrible injuries and not knowing if any of them were permanent. I enter the building and am greeted by many hello's from my friends but I still haven't seen any of the faces I had wanted to. I went into my old room and saw that a new honor student had moved in. He was unpacking his things and didn't even notice me pry up one of the floorboards and take out a box of memories. I went straight to the hospital rooms and found Jelani in room 243. I pulled up a chair to his bed and hit him in the head.

"Jelani I know you're not really sleeping, get up." I demand.

"What do you want Ty?"

"I have to tell you some things that happened while you were being stupid for the past 8 months."

"8 months? I could have sworn I left only 2 months ago."

"Well you didn't, here look at these pictures of you and Zanara." I give him the box.

"Ok, so what?"

"You two are actually happy together even when you were in a fight, but now because she is trying to keep a promise to some jerk who used to be her best friend, you hate her and she misses you like crazy."

"I bet Damon doesn't like that."

I smack the back of his head, "Shut up! Damon is a nice guy, you're just jealous of him getting Zanara. In fact Damon is so nice he invited you back to the castle, he wants to apologize and become your friend."

"No way, he got my best friend pregnant."

"Oh so now she's your best friend?"

There is a silence until he makes a confused face, "You said I was gone for over 8 months right?"

"Yes."

"And Damon gave me an invitation back to the castle."

"Well, yes."

"When can I go back?"

"In a week."

"Why can't I go now?"

"You still have to heal and that's not everything that has happened since you left."

"What else happened?"

"A few hours ago Zanara had the baby."

His eyes dimmed and he looked almost drained of energy, "Why don't you just cut me open?"

I smacked the back of his head again, "Shut up and be happy for me! I'm the godparent that Zanara chose."

"Congrats I hope you kill the monster." He replies in a sarcastic tone.

"Avery is the other godparent. Do you want to know if it was a boy or a girl or what it's name is?"

"No."

"Why!?!"

"Because I love Zanara! And you talking about her having a baby with another guy and while they're off getting married and having another kid, I'll be either dead or wishing I was."

"It was a boy and his name is Ashton Coal. Man you just like to suck the fun out of everything. Well if you want to come or not I don't care."

I stand there waiting for a response but he just stares blankly at the wall, I start to make my way out of the room when he finally replies, "Wait Ty, has Zanara thought about having more kids with him?"

"Do you really want me to answer that?" I asked.

"Yes."

"She has but she is going to wait until they get married to have another."

"Was it a vampire?"

"No he's an elemental, that's why they named him ASHton COAL."

Another long silence.

"Do you want to tell me what happened to you?" I asked.

"All I remember was running I don't know if it was away from Zanara or towards something or someone. But then I hit something hard and I was attacked by several vampires and I don't know what happened after that, I thought I was going to die. It was the one time since I had left that I wasn't thinking about Zanara, I was thinking of who was attacking me. I was scared out of my mind but every now and then something would touch me and I felt like an electric shock was running through my body but it felt amazing."

I realize what happened, "Where were you unconscious again?"

"The edge of the forest near 13th and Elm street."

"I'll be back," I exit the room and call Damon.

"Hello?" He answers almost sounding as if he had been sleeping.

"Damon can you get your hands on the security footage from the corner of 13th and Elm street?"

"I already have it why?"

"I need to go through it have you?"

"Not yet, give me a minute." He hangs up and I see him walk up to me, "Sorry it took a while." He hands me the tape. "Is this about Jelani?"

"Yea, something doesn't add up, I want to see who attacked him." I say examining it.

"Listen Ty even if you I.D. the person that attacked him I can't arrest them because it isn't illegal to attack a human for blood."

"It's not that I just need to know how many attacked him."

"Oh, alright well call me when he is all healed and I'll teleport you guys back."

I nod my head and he disappears. I run to the media center and push in the tape as I watch the video everything makes sense. Once the tape finished I grabbed it and left to find the people that were on the tape.
