Nesryn was a normal girl. She had had brown hair and brown eyes. People payed no attention to her so she just stayed in the background. Her family owned a farm on the country side in the land of Fearia. Her familys farm was by a village called whishire. It was a pleasant place when no one was around. All the villagers are so bored with their lives that they get into their neighbors business.
I sit at the table in a simple gray dress while my mother figets with my hair. "Why do you even bother it's not like an Shira will come." I whine. "You never no until you try". She says and she ties my hair into a fancy pony tail. A Shira is when a creature comes in a flash of light and stands before you. They come and make a bond that cannot be removed. The creatures have a mind link with you that allows you to communicate with them. They can allow others to communicate. They don't hold back when they trust other humans though.
My father walks in and looks me up and down. "You look nice" he says smiling. I smile at him "thanks" My mother whistles for her hawk. The hawk comes flying in the window and perches on my mothers shoulder. Her name was Esmerelda. My mother slides her fingers softly though the Hawks feathers. My father when he was young summoned a Rat. It was a good rat for being you know, a rat. His name was Jeffery and he had a gold ear ring on one of his ears.
I look up at my mother and sigh. "You will do fine" she says and we all walk out the door. As we walk down the trail to the town we see a man on the road. His face was covered in dirt and he stood there as if in a trance. "Don't make eye contact" my father whispers to me. I look to the ground and cling onto my mothers arm. We walk past the man he made a gurgling noise but did nothing. My eyes close expecting the man to stop us. We get about twenty feet away from him and I let out a sigh of relief. "What happened to him mother?" I ask. "I believe his Shira died ." She said in a sad tone.
We reach the town of gossip. I look around and see the villagers rushing from shop to shop. We walk down the road and get to the sacred spot. There was a pretty big crowd which made me even more nervous. I kneel down in front of a statue it was a statue of a animal mixed with fox, wolf, giraffe, and zebra.
I look down and repeat the prayer I was taught since I was three. "Goddes of the earth and sky, goddess of the moon and sun, answer my tender prayer and grant me the gift of companionship. No matter what I receive I will always be grateful." I look up and wait a few seconds. Nothing happens and I stay kneeling. I look around to see what to do. Panic start rising to my chest and my breathing quickens. I stay kneeling, waiting, hoping.
Hours pass and I don't give up. Everyone has left except my parents. I read in a book about how the Shira wont come if the person gives up. I was not going to give up. I repeat the prayer checking if i made a mistake. Nothing happens. Night falls and tears pricked at my eyes. I stand up and put my hand on the statue. My mother looked at me pity filled her eyes as I came to her. My parents embraced me in a tight hug and kissed my head. "Let's go home." My mom says softly. I nod my head and follow as they leave. I look back and the statue and turn to leave.
A huge flash hit behind me. I swirled in the direction and looked in the heart of the light. When the light vanished a green marble like egg sat in the middle before the statue. "Mother, Father come quick" I say as I walk to the egg. They came and looked at it. "What do you think it is?" My father asked. Jeffery crawled down and knocked on the egg. The rat shrugged it's shoulders and climbed back on his shoulder. I pick the egg up and cradle it in my arms. I smile widely at my mother. She smiles back and we walk back to our house.
We arrived home and saw my cousin passed out on the table. "Edward wake up" my father said. Ed moaned and and sat up. His snake was rapped around his arm. It scares me but I try to ignore it. "Any luck?" He asked "ummm no" I lied. He chuckles "I knew that you wouldn't get one. The Shira don't pick weak little girls." I grit my teeth "I'm not a little girl." he grins and I roll my eyes and leave. I look up and my mom and see a questioning look on her face. I shrug and walk into my room. Ed and I share a room which is very difficult since he is a pig. I set my bag on my bed and open it and take the egg out. I set it down and pet it. I sigh after a while and put it back in my bag and hide it under my bed. I lay down and close my eyes before whispering "goodnight"
