Ten years later

I sit on a ledge of a cliff dangling my feet over the edge. "What are you thinking?" Lucien says. I look at him "nothing" I say sighing Lucien grew huge. He grew bigger than a horse and stronger then a hundred men put together. He told me his name on my twelfth birthday and it was one of the most happiest day in my life. I lean against his side and slightly close my eyes. "I think the army is coming to get us soon." I say sadness striking my voice. "I won't let them" Lucien says in a strict voice. "Well we have to be ready to join the dragon riders" I say standing "so I have to learn how to ride you" I say in a nervous voice. I have always wanted to ride him but the way he flys makes me nervous. "Well are we going to try now?" He asks. "No lets go back home and try." I say walking back to my horse. I mount my horse and start riding down the mountain. Lucien was flying around keeping a close eye on me as he flys. We arrive back to the farm. I take my horse to the barn and but her in her stable. I walk outside to where Lucien was standing. He lays down so I could climb on his back. I climb on him "are you sure this is a good idea?" He asks in a nervous voice. "Yeah.....this will be fun." I say laughing nervously. "Nesryn May Christoph what on earth are you doing?" My mother yells as she walks out the door of our house. "I'm gonna learn how to fly him." I say. "Well this will be hilarious." My cousin Ed says as he walks out the door. I stick my tongue at him and we start walking down to the field where Lucien first learned how to fly.

We run in circles to get me used to riding him on the ground. Then he stops, gasping "are you ready for the sky?" He asks I gulp and nod "ok let's do this" I say gripping him tightly. "Be careful dear" my mother yells her hands cupped around her mouth. I give her a thumbs up.  Lucien runs then flaps his wings with one huge force. The wind blows my hair and we go higher and higher. Panic rises in my stomach as I start sliding Down his back "Lucien!" I scream as I slide off his back. Free falling sends butterflies in my stomach and I send a mind link to Lucien. "CATCH ME!!" I yell through our mind link. "IM TRYING" he yells back. I get closer and closer to the ground until Lucien catches me in his arms. We go closer to the ground he try's to slow down. I scream as he drops me on a huge pile of hay. I lay there stunned "Nesryn!" I hear my mother scream. I give her a thumbs up as she get closer to show her that I'm still alive. I roll of the hay gasping for breath. Lucien lands next to my mother "I'm so sorry" he whispers in my mind link. "No it's ok. Good call with the haystack." My mother helps me up. "You too reckless youth you scared me to death" she says pointing at me and Lucien. "It was a accident I couldn't hold on tight enough." I say. She hugs me tight "don't scare me like that ever again." She says. I smile "I won't" she lets go and walks over to my father who I guess was watching. He smiles "I have an idea" he says. He walks past me and into the barn. I follow but he pushes me out. " it's a surprise." He says as he closes the door. I sigh and walk back to Lucien he was talking to Ed's snake. "I thought we did pretty good" Lucien says. "Yeah your right the falling part was beautiful. Good job" he hisses Lucien growls "buzz off" he says as he walks towards me "I'm really sorry" he says as me puts his head to mine "it's ok" I say smiling "we will try another time." I say. He nods and flys off. I walk into the house and sit down.

I wake up the next day and walk outside. "There is it a good fit" I watch my father put a saddle on Lucien. "Yeah it feels really comfy" he says shaking seeing if it will fall off. "I can't wait to show Nesryn she will be so happy" I back up and back into the house. "I'll go get her" my father says. I run back to my room and throw the covers on me pretending to be asleep. My father walks in "hey Nesryn wake up I have something to show you." I fake yawn and stand and follow. Lucien was no where to me seen. "What do you want to show me?" I ask. My father whistles and Lucien flys around and lands right in front of me. The saddle layed perfectly around his body. I walk towards him and run my hand over it. "It's perfect thank you father" I whisper. He had a little spot to put supplies on the back and little pouches on the side. My dad made a little thing that straps me on and keeps me from sliding. I mount Lucien feeling how comfortable it was. "It fits perfectly" I say smiling. My father smiles as I get off and hug him. "Go try it out" he says. I nod and mount Lucien.

We take off soaring around the field. The wind blows through my hair and I smile as we do a loop. The saddle holds me in tight. He fly around for hours occasionally I would see my mother come out and watch us. We fly to the top of a mountain and eat our lunch. I lean against Lucien's Side  munching on a apple I sigh and stand looking off the cliff "let's dive off" I say in excitement. Lucien nods and I mount him. We jump off and dive down. I lift my hands over my head giving a holler of joy. We arrive back home with two new horses tied to the front. I get off Lucien "it might be guards so get out of here." He jumps and soars away. I walk in the door and see two royal guards sitting at the table. "Oh and this his my daughter she did not receive a Shira and my adopted son summoned a Snake. But that's it" my mother says smiling. "Oh ok well thank you for your hospitality and kindness." They stand and shake my mother and fathers hands. One reaches out to me to shake my hand. I reach out and shake his. He quickly grabs my arm and lifts the sleeve up. A burn mark of a dragon was Seared into my skin. I look at it in shock. "You didn't summon anything did you?" He says. I stare at him with wide eyes. He forces me out the door with the yells of protest from my mother. "Summon your dragon now!" He yells at me. "I don't know what you are talking about." I say closing my eyes. "Lying is punishable by death" he says. He snaps his fingers as the other guard grabs my mother holding his sword to her throat. "No stop" a Jaguar guards my father in the door way and Ed was no where to be seen. "Please Lucien come quick." I say through my mind link. A thunder of wings and Lucien lands in front of me and the guard. He growls and glares at the guard. The guard steps away from me and my mother. He pulls a scroll out of his bag. He clears his throat "Nesryn daughter of James and dragon tamer. You have been summoned by King Rail himself to serve as one of the Dragon riders to keep back the evil that leaks into the land of Fearia. You are summoned to report tomorrow evening no questions asked" he closes his scroll and starts to leave leaving my mother crying on the ground. I stand tall not showing any sign of emotion as tears start pricking at my eyes.
