Chapter 5: Seeing Light

Scarlet was out for a walk, it would be a few hours before her and Cameron went out to get the pet pig they wanted. She was wasting some time but kept checking the time just in case. She turned a corner and glanced down an alleyway across the street. She froze.

Mabel was on the ground covering her head with her arms as the punk kids laughed. A girl with black and red hair kicked Mabel. Scarlet rushed across the street and appeared blocking the light a little as the punk kids looked at her.

The punk guy from before glared at her,

"What are you doin' here shortcake? This isn't your fight."

"She's my friend though."

Scarlet grabbed Mabel's arm and yanked her up and put Mabel behind herself.

The girl laughed,

"What do you mean? The shortie can't fight for herself?!"

They all laughed.

At Mabel!

Scarlet growled and punched the girl right across the face! Right into that girls jaw!

The girl fell back and yelped,

"THAT RED HEAD IS AN IDIOT! BOYS! GET HER!"

There was the usual punk kid and two others. A larger round one and a tall muscular one. They all wore black,silver, and red. Maybe a little grey.

The larger one growled and glared at Scarlet. The others did I too as they started to menacingly surround her.

Scarlet quickly whispered to Mabel,

"Run home. Don't look back. Just go!"

Mabel did as she was told and ran. Ran as if her life depended on it, which it did I because those punks wouldn't leave her alone!

Scarlet was faced with these annoying,no good,
Ruckus makers. The usual one made a fake lunge and then the talk one tackled Scarlet. Scarlet yelped as the tall one grabbed her by her shirt collar and lifted her up against a wall. He swung his arm and hit Scarlet in the face. Scarlet whimpered slightly and held back tears.

She was not going to show these guys she was weak!

She kicked her leg and hit the guy where he shouldn't be hit and he groaned in pain dropping Scarlet. Scarlet fell to the ground and almost screamed as the larger guy grabbed her by her shoulders. He shoved her in front of him while the usual one had his fist ready.

Scarlet smirked,

"Oh so you need a henchman to hold your targets? That's stupid."

"W-what?! No! Matt! Let her go so I can fight her!"

"Ok boss!"

The larger guy, named Matt, let Scarlet go. As soon as Scarlet was free she swung at Fish breath and skimmed his nose. That was his nick name now in her opinion, Fish Breath.
Fish Breath moved back a little then swung at Scarlets face, faking as he kicked her in the stomach. Scarlet fell back against one of the brick walls of the alleyways. She fell to the ground and curled up as Fish Breath and Matt started kicking her.
Scarlet was slowly going into unconsciousness when she heard a familiar voice.

"HEY! Stop that! If you don't the football team will have you shoved in the fields dirt and wedged into a locker!"

She heard the foot steps of the punks leaving....they were running? Strange, they didn't seem afraid of anything...

She felt someone kneel beside her and pick her up while whispering,

"It's okay Scarlet....I'm here."
