I pull into the driveway after dropping both my dad and Matt. Matt still doesn't know about what my dad told me, and I intend on keeping it that way. I don't know why I'm making this such a big deal. All it is is where I want to spend my summer. If I spend here, I'll have Matt and it'll be a three month long party basically. But if I spend my summer in New Mexico, I get to spend much needed quality time with my dad and I love it out there. There's so much to do out there like hiking. Not to mention I get to stay in my dad's huge house, which will always be a good reason. I really should get Matt's input on this, but I don't need him making my decisions.
I sigh and lean back in the driver's seat. I decide that hiding out in my car isn't going to fix anything so I go inside. I walk through the door to tables set up and graduation decorations being hung up by Kevin.
"You realize the party isn't until tomorrow afternoon, correct?" I put my stuff down on the bench just inside the door and go over to where Kevin is hanging a "Congratulations Grad!" banner on the mantle.
"Tell your mother that," he huffs.
"Ah, I see," I say as I walk away and into the kitchen where my mother is starting to prepare vegetable trays. I take a seat at the island and watch my mom work until she finally notices me.
"Oh, Mollie, didn't notice you," she says. "I didn't expect you home so early, everything go okay with your father?"
"Yeah he's fine. He's down at the Mariott."
"That's good," she says. That's the extent of our conversation about my father because she abruptly changes the subject. "Do you like the decorations? I got off work early and I stopped at the party store. They still had a lot left."
"Yeah. They're looking pretty good," I say. She doesn't notice the lack of sincereity in my voice. Typical of my mother.
"They're coming along just fabulously," she says as she starts cutting a head of broccoli.
"Yep. I'm going to leave it to you two because you're doing such a great job," I say as I make a dash for the stairs. I make it up the stairs just in time because I hear my mom yell my name. I act like I don't hear her and walk to my room. I open my door and collapse onto my bed. I could lay here forever, but my mother comes in and ruins it.
"Get off your lazy ass and help me cut vegetables," she commands.
"Ughh, fine."

"Jesus could you be more loud?" I yell-whisper to Matt. I can't wait to get those clompy shoes off of that boy.
"Sorry," he whispers.
It's about 3:40 in the morning and I couldn't sleep and neither could Matt so I told him to come over. He gladly accepted and here we are, heading up my stairs with Matt making as much noise as humanly possible. I take his hand and guide him to my room once we're up to the top of the stairs. I don't know why I'm guiding him, he's been to room plenty of times before. Some of the times being in the midst of undressing.
We crawl under the covers. He wraps his arms around me. I love the warmth he gives off.
"I'm so glad you're here," I whisper. He presses a kiss to my lips.
"Me too." Even though it's pitch black in here, I can still see a smile spreading across his lips. I put my hand in his. We stay like that for a few minutes. It was perfect. Just him and I all warm and snuggly in my bed. I couldn't have asked for anything more.
"You wanna do it?" he whispers in my ear.
Well, that kind of killed it. Killed it in the way you would gut a chicken.
