++++ LAELYNN ++++
I'm trembling all over. I'm so uptight I don't think I can move. The darkness consumed me for what seemed like and eternity and covered me with a bitter coldness. Michael comes over to tell us that we need to go, but then realizes what happened. He kneels down beside me and hugs me.
"This is what I didn't want happening." He's shaking now, so wrap my arms around him and try to hold both of us steady.
"I know." He stops shaking and helps me to my feet. I start to feel light-headed, but don't show it. We need to get out. John finds some cloth, crafts a makeshift sling for Anna, and we run out the same way we came in. For some reason, no one even tries to attack us. They just let us go.
When we reach the truck, I feel super dizzy and Eleise notices.
"Are you okay?" She asks me as I hop up in the seat. I nod, but it only makes me that much dizzier. She climbs in behind me and grabs my hand as Michael climbs in after her and shuts the door. "Laelynn. Tell me." Michael seems to notice as well, his eyes flick back and forth between Anna and me, who is sitting in the front by John. Grace is to my right, also giving me a strange look.
"I'm fine." I lie. Eleise puts her arm around me and Grace holds my hand; they don't believe my lie, but Michael actually bought it. He stares at Anna, his gaze tired and frustrated. Light-headedness sweeps over me again as we pass through the heart of the city, and I can faintly hear Eleise talking to me; faintly feel her stroke my head like Anna used to when she'd braid our hair.
"Laelynn, come on. John, step on it. Lae's still passed out." I hear Eleise say as the faintness leaves. I'm lying across her lap. She's trying keep her voice (and herself) calm, but she's never been the best at that; her voice cracks at every syllable.
"No, I'm good." I say, startling her. She looks down at me in shock.
"Laelynn! Gosh, you scared me." I sit up and pretend nothing happened.
"LAE! You were out cold! What do you mean, 'I'm fine.'? Do you even know how long you were out?" Michael is glaring at me now. Panic floods my mind- I don't. "Exactly. You were out of it for THIRTY MINUTES. We're almost home." Now that he's vented about me trying to blow everything off, he sighs. "Sorry. I was freaking out." We pull in the driveway a few minutes later and Michael insists that he helps me out.
"I'm fine." I protest as he grabs my arm, once I'm out of the truck.
"The last time you told me that, you passed out on me while I believed that you were 'fine'. You're not gonna pull that on me again." He's using his 'authoritive big brother voice', and it almost brings tears to my eyes. He sounds just like Dad and Drew. Apparently this shows on my face, because he puts his arm around me and asks, "Lae, what's wrong?" I push him away and run into the house; I can't deal with it when he reminds me of them. He starts to call out in protest, but stops. I run to our room and find my bed surrounded by people- Anna must be there. The sight of her arm makes me wince, so I decide to go out to the cove before anyone sees me.
Thewalk to the cove is nice. The bright green leaves on the trees and the summerbreeze is comforting. I pass all the tables and the pavilion and slide down thebank to the cove. I lie against the wall right by the entrance and go to sleep.c
