She smiled softly before wincing at the pain in her knee and shoulder.
"Careful May your knee and shoulder are broken." Giotto said from the chair. May looked over slightly startled.
"I thought you where asleep." May said.
"I was." Giotto said stretching in his seat.
"Oh." May said looking away
"Are you alright, well besides the knee and shoulder." Giotto asked standing up. May nodded still not looking at him.
"I know you're lying." Giotto said walking over to her bed.
"I'm alright Giotto, just curious why I was attacked." May sighed.
"Probably to get at me." Giotto said sounding down as he looked down.
"Now what's wrong with you?" May asked looking up at him.
"I couldn't protect you like I said I would." Giotto said sadly.
"You did nothing wrong Giotto, plus you won't be able to protect me all the time." May said sweetly trying to cheer Giotto up.
"I realize that but it doesn't help me knowing there was something I could of done." Giotto muttered backing up so he could plop in his chair.
"Giotto." May started stopped not knowing what to say.
"I read what you wrote." Giotto said suddenly. May's face flushed a light red color.
"Y-you did?" May stuttered.
"Yes, my love." Giotto said making May blush scarlet.
-Time Skip-
A month past before May could go home to her bakery. When she did it was early in the morning and she left behind a key to her place for Giotto. Once she got to the front of her shop there were a large crowd of people that looked like they where prying.
"What's going on here?" May asked trying to get to the front door.
"May your alive!" Someone yelled.
"Yes I am why did you think other wise." May asked finally getting to the door.
"There was a rumor going around that this place was shot up." Another said.
"That's no rumor that actually happened." Another yelled. May just stood there not wanting to say anything.
"May why arn't you saying anything?" A lady asked.
"Because nothing like that happened so there is nothing to worry about." May said opening the shops door.
"So you'll be open tomorrow?" The same lady asked.
"Yes I'll be open." May said to a cheering crowd. The crowd dispersed as May went in side. The door bell chimed as the door was opened.
"The shop is close please come back tomorrow." May said her back to the door. Suddenly there was a cold steal blade pressed against her neck. She didn't react the way her attacker was expecting a 'civilian' to react. Instead of freezing in her place she chuckled.
"What's so funny?!" Her attacker demanded.
"Nothing just haven't been in this situation for quite some time." May said smugly laughing. The next moment May was on top of her attacker pushing his face into the ground with a dagger of her own on his neck.
"Who are you? You're not the one I was sent to kill." The man said. May chuckled again.
"I'm no one not even the night could find." May said her old line That sent the assassin ridged with fear.
"Night's dead how do you know her signature line?!" He snapped still scared.
"She's dead huh? Well then consider this a warning to everyone on the assassin world. Don't ever attack, this shop or Vongola unless you want Night to come back from the dead." May said before disappearing from her spot. The assassin stood up from his place rubbing his neck looking arond, seeing no one he booked it out of the shop. May sighed as she walked up the stairs to her home. Again she was grabbed from behind but something told her she wasn't in danger this time.
"May you left the mansion with out telling me or anyone for that matter." Giotto whispered in her ear.
"That was because I didn't want to be escorted I was fine on my own." May said not minding Giotto's closeness.
"You still should of told someone, everyone was worried about you since Knuckles said you should take it easy." Giotto said still not letting her go.
"I don't know the meaning of take it easy." May said trying not to shiver at Giotto's breath on her neck.
"Relax. You shouldn't push yourself while you are still recovering." Giotto said after letting her go. May turned around to face him.
"I don't relax unless I'm forced to, like I was for a whole month!" May said slightly glaring. Giotto smiled handsomely at May before picking her up earning a squeak from her.
"What are you doing Gio!" May said slightly raising her voice.
"Gio? When did you start calling me that?" Giotto asked stopping.
"Just now." May said looking back at the side of Giotto's face. Giotto smiled and continued to his destination.
"Gio, put me down." May huffed folding her arms.
"Not yet May." Giotto said. May proceeded to pout not liking where her thoughts where going. She stayed like that till Giotto dropped her on her bed.
"Gio?" May asked.
"You are to stay here and relax for the rest of the day." Giotto ordered.
"You're not my boss." May said with a poker face.
"No but I am your boyfriend." Giotto muttered blushing.
"True, but I still have a job." May said.
"No you don't you closed your shop for the day." Giotto argued. May sighed in defeat and Giotto smiled in triumph.
"You knew you where going to win didn't you." May said as she moved to the head broad.
"I figured but I didn't know I would." Giotto said sitting at the foot of the bed.
"Sure you didn't." May said rolling her eyes playfully. Giotto chuckled shaking his head.
"What about your paperwork?" May asked raising her eyebrow.
"They're done." Giotto said quickly.
"You're lying." May said.
"Fine, I have a couple left but they are marriage proposals and I'm not going to marry someone I don't know or love." Giotto said with a sigh. May smiles and tried to hide a yawn but it didn't work.
"You should rest." Giotto said standing up.
"I'm fine Gio." May said. Giotto shook his head and left the room. He went to the kitchen to get two slices of cake. When he returned he found May asleep with a quill in her hand resting on a blank booklet page.
