Clawd and I sat on my bedroom floor. I let go of the Xbox controller with one hand, grabbing a cookie on the plate next to me. We were playing Gears of War, a rather bloody and gore-filled game, and Clawd's character had just got us both killed.
"Smooth move," I said, resetting the level. He "accidentally" shot my character in the back. "You're so lucky that we can't damage each other," he chuckled and went onto the boat-like platform to kill some bad guys. "That's disgusting," I said as he chain sawed some dude to death. He shrugged.
"Get used to it, dear," I laughed lightly. I had a feeling that we'd have the game finished in another couple hours. We had started playing at 6:30. I made a quick glance for my clock and then looked back at the screen.
"What time is it?" He paused the game and looked at my clock.
"A little after two. Why? Are you tired?" I shook my head. No, I just couldn't read the time. Was it possible for a vampire to need glasses? I guess I'd have to go see Veronica to find out. The screen went red again and I dropped the controller to the floor, rubbing at my eyes. I held the plate of cookies up to Clawd. He grabbed a couple off the plate and stuffed them all in his mouth. I smiled in spite of myself. I used to eat like that all the time. Only with junk food, of course.
"Are we trying this again or what?" Clawd asked, leaning against the foot of my bed. I thought about it for a couple of seconds before I nodded.
"One more try, I guess," I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep playing or if I wanted to go to sleep. However, when we successfully completed the mission, I decided that I wanted to keep playing. After several more difficult levels, missions, and chapters, we had completed the game. I glanced at the clock, still unable to read it. I stood up and walked over to my dresser. 9:45am. We had been playing the game for a little over fifteen hours without any breaks.
"We are hardcore gamers," I said, looking back at Clawd. He stretched and yawned.
"What time is it?" I looked at him with a look that asked, You really wanna know? He nodded.
"9:45. In the morning," I said, walking back over to where Clawd sat. I sat behind him, on the edge of my bed. I draped my arms over his shoulders and kissed him on the cheek. "I feel like we should've been asleep a very vey long time ago," I whispered. He nodded. I let go of him and let myself fall backwards, onto the softness of my bed. I threw one of the blankets from my bed to Clawd, along with a pillow. He curled up on the floor and fell asleep in a matter of seconds. I fell asleep several minutes after he did, listening to the sound of his breathing.
