The two of us sat in my room on the floor, a bowl of popcorn between us. I thought about how to tell Lagoona how I was feeling, but I had no idea where to start. Then, I decided to approach it the same way that I had with Clawd. So, I explained to Lagoona exactly what I had explained to Clawd. She listened thoughtfully, taking a handful of popcorn every now and then. When I was done talking, she nodded and looked at me.
"So, what feels wrong?" She asked. I shrugged, folding my hands and placing them in my lap. "Well, think about it for a second, then. It's pretty vague; what feels wrong?" I thought about it.
"I'm a vampire, " she made a sound that meant "obviously". I continued. "But, I have to wear glasses. How many vampires do you know that have to wear glasses?" She placed her finger on her cheek, as if it would help her think.
"Gory. One of the vampires from the vampire prep school," she said. I never even thought about Gory. As far as I knew, she had always worn glasses.
"Good call. Alright, I'm warm," I said holding out my arm. Lagoona grabbed my hand, drawing back. She nodded, staring at my hand and then looking back at me. "I feel like I have to eat more and more and I'm tired all the time. Vampires don't even have to eat normal food or sleep. And those two things are the only things that I want to do," I said. She looked at me for a long time before saying anything.
"Have you seen a doctor?" I nodded.
"Frankie's mom," she shook her head. She folded her hands, rested her elbows on her knees, and rested her chin on her hands.
"No, mate. Like, a real doctor. One who could do surgeries and whatnot. The ones who went to college for a long time," I shook my head. The only doctors like the ones Lagoona described were normies. I had seen enough normies in the past couple of days, I didn't need another one poking at me like I was some lab rat.
"So, a human?" I asked to verify my suspicions. She nodded. "No. I haven't. Why would I? Most of them hate monsters, nonetheless vampires," she shrugged, taking another handful of popcorn.
"With what your describing, you could pass for a human. You know, except for you having no reflection. But, they normally don't make you look in a mirror or anything," I laughed.
"As far as you know, anyways," she laughed. I took a handful of popcorn and stuck it in my mouth. As I chewed the popcorn, I considered my possibilities. I didn't know what to do. Did I really have to go see another normie doctor? The eye doctor was just fine, he was nice. But, most normal doctors weren't as nice. If one of them found out that there was a vampire in their office, I would probably never see daylight again.
"I guess I don't really know what to tell you, then," Lagoona said, frowning. "I guess you'll just have to work it out. Have you talked it over with your dad?" I shook my head quickly. Why hadn't I talked to him? He'd listen to me, try and figure out what was wrong. He loved me with all the love his non-beating heart could give.
"I'll talk to him about it. Never even crossed my mind," I said, placing my hands in my lap. "Can you stay longer?" She looked at her phone and shook her head.
"Sorry, mate. I can't. We have a family reunion or something like that. I have to go to it. Wish I could stay here; it'd be a lot more fun," she said, standing up. I stood up and followed her out of my room and to the front door.
"Well, I'll see you on Monday, then," I said. She nodded and walked out of my house. "Hey, Dad!" I exclaimed. I walked down the stairs to the basement and met my dad halfway down them.
"Did you say something?" He asked. I nodded. I rubbed at the back of my neck.
"Do you have a minute?" He nodded uncertainly, worry replacing the normal look on his face. He walked with me to the living room and sat down on the couch. I sat next to him and explained everything that I had explained to both Lagoona and Clawd.
"There's a doctor in Ankeny," he said, his head resting on his hands. "He was your doctor when you first became a vampire. I got rid of him because I felt uncomfortable with him being around you," he looked up at me and then put his head back on his hands. "He's a good doctor, a vampire himself. He was originally a human, but he got sick. I turned him," I frowned. I had to go see an old vampire doctor?
"He was a vampire right before you were one. Then your mother got sick and...... And died, and then you got sick. I thought it was all his fault. I realize now that it's not," there was a long silence hanging in the room before he continued. "I'll take you to see him myself. Explain everything to him. I know he'll find out what's wrong. I just.... I just don't want to lose you, Draculaura. Your mother was enough. Nothing.... Nothing can be wrong with you," he said quietly. He looked back up at me, his eyes brimmed with tears. That's when I started crying. It was the only time in my whole life, 1600 years, that I had seen my father cry. The only time. I wrapped my arms tightly around him, and he did the same to me.
After several moment, he pulled away from me, his hands still on my shoulders. He looked me up and down and then came to a stop, looking me right in the eyes.
"Why are you so warm?"
