It was Sunday, just several days after the big snow storm on Friday. Yet, most of the snow was gone. Opening the door and going outside was like walking into some giant rainforest. It was almost ninety degrees, and the humidity from the snow melting jacked it up to about 102°. Still, I had an appointment with the normie eye doctor, today. And snow obviously couldn't be an excuse for staying home. So, after we had ate lunch, Clawd and I headed off in his truck for normie town. Here in Iowa, most of the towns were normie towns. Ames, Ankeny, Webster City, Blairsburg, so on and so forth. However, Crystalfort was right on the outskirts of Blairsburg, taken off the normie map the minute my father named the place. Anyways, this normie particular normie town was Ames. The place was about forty-five minutes away and my appointment was at noon. It was currently 11:10.
We drove the long drive there, watching other cars out the window. We drove past so many empty fields, cows, horses and little foals playing in the pastures. We drove past a couple of campsites, people swimming and fishing. I must of fallen asleep, because Clawd shook my shoulder and woke me up. I glanced at the clock. The blurred numbers read 11:55. We both got out of the truck and walked into the building. Clawd tugged at the tight shirt collar around his neck. The poor thing. He was wearing his hat, jeans, boots, and a shirt that the sleeves stopped at his mid-forearm. I knew that he had to be really hot from wearing all of it, but he insisted on protecting his identity from the normies. But, the air conditioning in the building would help cool him down.
"Hi, I'm Draculaura. I have an appoint at noon," the receptionist looked at me funny and then forced herself to smile. She typed some stuff into the computer in front of her and looked back up at me.
"Last name," I shook my head. "It's not a question. I need to know your last name," I didn't know what to say or do. I didn't have a last name. My last name was literally the first part of my first name. Dracula - Laura. Before I was a vampire, my name was Laura. So, my father just put the two together. BAM! Draculaura.
"I don't have a last name," I wanted to say more, but I bit my tongue. I wasn't going to get myself kicked out of the place for no reason. I was, however, thinking about how lucky this woman was that I didn't bite people. She typed some more things into the computer.
"Alright then, ma'am. Follow Dr. Tesdahl," I nodded and walked away from the woman and followed the doctor. The cute doctor, might I add. He sat me down in a chair and sat down at his own desk.
"I don't have your age here. Could you tell me it, please?" 1600. Nope. How about sixteen? That sounded about right for normie years.
"Sixteen," he nodded and wrote the number down in the file. He stood up, taking his reading glasses off of his face and setting them on his desk.
"Alright, then," he pretty much did the exact examination and tests that Veronica had done. He rolled his chair back over to his desk and wrote some things down.
"You need glasses. And it's a good thing you came in to check now. You're vision is very bad," I was so confused. I was a vampire! "It's ok, though. We can get you sent home with some nice glasses here in an hour or so. Just go on out and design it."
"Design it?" I cocked my head out of confusion. He nodded, standing up and opening the door to let me out of his office.
"Well, it's optional. We do have some to choose from, but we've created a design your own website for the glasses. Terri will help you with it. It's simple once you know how to do it," I still didn't understand it, but I nodded anyways. Clawd and I followed him out of the office and to the designing room. Basically, there was a little tablet, like an iPad, but you drew on it. Whatever you drew, they engraved it into the sides of the glasses. It was kinda cool. Within twenty minutes, I had designed my glasses and left the clinic.
