Throughout the Bible, it is a habit for people to wash the feet of those who visit their home as a sign of respect, since people normally picked up dirt on their feet when traveling. The best example of this in the bible is when Jesus insists on washing the feet of his followers. This scene is reversed in Death Note, when L washes Light's feet, as if he were admitting that Light truly is the god that he claims himself to be. Light notices that L's hair is wet, so he hesitantly wipes his hair in return.
