Chapter Nine

"How quick can you get those guns?" I ask Jake

"10 mintues?" He replies. I nod and he runs down the stairs

"Jake!" I hear Ty shout after him. He stops halfway down the stairs and turns back to him. Nothing is said but they seem to understand each other. Jake then carries on down and out the garage.

"Jayden" I pull him aside from everyone else "You were right, about Jake, just make sure everyone gets away from him and Kyles gang, I got a plan" I explain to him. He nods at me and we all head downstairs.

Like Jake said, he was 10 minutes and we were away and at Brickside for 7 pm.

"Hey, it's still light" Katie comments as we get out

"It doesn't matter" I reply and we head inside.

"Arr you made it" Kyles voice sounds from behind his wall of men he's hiding behind. "Take your cars round back and load up, the rest of you set up" he orders. We turn to leave when his voice strikes again

"Hey! Who's this Elena?" He asks. Shit

"Our 5th driver" I turn back to him. He shakes his head and laughs nervously.

"No, we agreed to your team on our last meet up, not with him in it" he says

"Things change, Kyle, so if you want your precious coke delivered on time then I suggest you let him drive" I growl, my patience wearing thin. He thinks a moment then nods. I nod once back then we carry on out to our cars.

There's five bags already laid out on the floor for us. We each grab one and sling it in the trunk. We drive back round to the front of the café and head in. Katie and Kaylee are set up, now we just have sync up to them.

"You'll get out of range" one of his goons speaks up

"Then I suggest you move them with us" I snap. He looks to Kyle and he nods. We sync up to them and Kyle gives us a slip of paper

"This is your destination, good luck" he says with one of his twisted smiles plastered all over his face. We take it and head to our cars.

"Elena, you good?" Luke asks over the phone. I nod as I pull away, like he can see me.

"Yeah, let's get this done" I reply and we speed off.

"Elena, take a right" I hear Kaylee's voice. I do as she says and follow her instructions.

"Argh, Elena, we got cops" I hear her again. I groan

"Fuck you, Jake" I mumble as I come nose to nose with a cop. I swerve round it and so do the others

"They're coming on your left" her voice chimes again. I glance in that direction and see them. "Sharp right" She shouts. I catch it just before I fly past

"They're straying from the path!" I hear a muffeled voice Kaylee's end

"Do you want them to get caught!" She shouts back.

"We got rid of the main crowd" Hailie chimes in.

"How fast you going?" Katie asks

"120" I reply

"Go faster" she orders. I do as she says. "Get on the freeway" she adds. I spin round and take the turning for the freeway. As we drive, the freeway disappears and we're instructed to pull off the road and follow the new one.

"You got this guys come on!" Kaylee shouts to us. "You're pulling in on that layby" she adds. I look for it and there's 5 more cars at the top of the road on the corner. I speed up to get to them faster.

"Kaylee, get outta there" I tell her as I pull up. 5 guys are stood facing me and the rest of the crew when they pull up.

"You got the loads?" One guys asks

"In the trunk" Luke replies. I glance to Jake and he's already staring back at me. Why hasn't he made a move yet? The ring leader throws his bag in his trunk and turns to face us.

"Well thanks guys, your job is terminated perminately" he says and they pull their guns on us. "Such a shame. You beautiful girls could've had such a better life" he adds. I feel for my gun but it's not there. I glance to the car and I see it sitting on the dash. Shit. I close my eyes and wait for the gunshot.

Shots were fired but none hit me. I open my eyes and see bullets firing everywhere. One of the guys is shooting up at the hill and his shots are returned to one in the head.

I'm frozen to the spot, I know I should take cover but I'm so confused as to what's going on. I look up to the hill and see a sniper sat there shooting at the guys. I'm the most easiest target to get and he's going for the one guy that's taking cover behind his car. All the noise fades back in as I gather up my thoughts.

"Elena! Get your ass down!" I hear a shout from the guys. I crouch down behind my car and wait for the gunfire to end.

"Come on, we gotta go!" Jayden shouts and the others follow him bar me and Jake. I stand up and stare at him. He looks like he debating what to do. I grab my phone and hold it to my ear

"Kaylee?" I ask as I make my way round to the drivers side.

"What's going on?" She asks.

"I need you to figure out who that sniper was" I tell her. I know she wouldn't seen the gun battle from her laptop.

"You got it" She replies and I put my phone on loud speaker as I follow on from Jayden and the crew. I look in my rear view mirror and Jake's following me. I sigh

"You got it Kaylee?" I ask

"Err, Elena, it's a cop" she says. I slam my breaks on and sway from side to side as I stop completely. I see the crew stood in front of their cars and Kaylee and Katie are with them. I get out the car and walk to Jake who's stopped a couple hundred metres behind me.

"Why'd you get the sniper?!" I shout to him when I'm close enough for him to hear me.

"I didn't want you to be killed!" He shouts back. I carry on until I'm about 10 metres from him.

"Why? You got more credit when I killed them guys back in Texas" I argued

"Elena, please don't make this any harder than it already is" he begs. I scoff

"You told me, to my face, you told me you wouldn't and you fucking did, I genuinely thought you 'left your job' for me" I nearly shout

"I did!"

"No you didn't! They put you on my case so you could bring me in! You were the only one close enough for me to let in, and like a fucking idiot I did" I shout back

"None of this was intended, I was gonna let you get this job and carry on with your lives. But then Tyler basically said I never had a shot with you, so I figured I do my duty like I was sent here to do" he explains.

"If you really loved me, you should've done the decent thing and let me be happy" I say to him as I walk towards him. He pulls out the hand cuffs and slaps them round my wrists. "I knew I was foolish to let a pig in the family" I mutter as he pats me down for weapons

"What is she doing? I thought you said she had a plan?" I hear Kaylee on my phone. Jake forces my head down on the hood of his car and faces me towards the crew.

"This was the plan" I hear Jayden reply as he gets in his car and drives away. Jake pulls my phone out my pocket and ends the call. Slowly, the others retreat to their cars and pull away. I didn't think it would hurt that much, seeing my family leave me, but it did.

A stray tear made it's way down my cheek and hit the hood. Jake pulls my head off the hood just as I see the last car disappear over the hill. He pushes me in the back of the car then speeds away.

I actually started welling up at this 😪
