Paisley's POV
My eyes fluttered open. I sat up and checked my phone. I read the unknown phone number across the screen.
I slid my finger across the screen and read the message.S- Hey it's Shawn. I was wondering if you would like to go to lunch with me today.
I smiled and started typing back.
P- I would love too. Is 12:30 okay?
I waited for a response back. I ran downstairs finding something to eat for breakfast. I walked past my parents room. My dad was sleeping. He works a night shift so he sleeps all day.
I got to the bottom of the stairs and saw my lovely mom Grace in the kitchen with my little brother Brandon. He is thirteen and is a pain in the butt.
"Good morning sweetie. Here I made some breakfast." I sat down and looked at the plate in front of me. It had yummy bacon and eggs with oranges on the side.
"Thanks mom." I started eating when I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket.
S- Sounds great! I'll pick you up then.
I texted him my address and added a smiley face at the end.
"Mom I'm going to go to lunch with a friend today." She looked up at me with worry in her eyes.
"With who?" I smiled and rolled my eyes.
"This boy Shawn. I met him yesterday at the waterfall. He is really nice." She smiled.
"Okay have fun!" I put my dishes in the sink and ran to my room. It was 10:00 so I had time to kill. I might as well pick out what I want to wear and get ready.
Shawn's POV
I woke up to the sound of a door slamming. I knew exactly what it was. My dad was home.
I got up and sat at the top of the stairs listening to my mom trying to calm him down. It took me everything to not go down there and put him in his place. The things he said to my mom were awful, horrible and selfish.
Tears stung my eyes as I listened. Things shattering. My mom screaming, my dad yelling. I saw my dad coming up the stairs. I ran to my sisters room. I locked the door and ran over to her. She was crying under the covers. I tried to get her to calm down. I told her to be quiet and listen to me.
"Shawn! Get your ass out here now!" I just looked at Aaliyah and put my finger up to my lips signaling for her to be quiet. She just nodded.
"Shawn I'm not going to tell you again!" I got up and turned around and looked at Aaliyah.
"Shawn where are you going?"
"Shh. Stay here and whatever you do. Don't leave. You will be okay I promise. I love you." She hid under the covers.
I swung open the door revealing my dad sloppy drunk.
"Dad calm down. You are acting childish." He grabbed my arm and brought me close to his face. I could smell the alcohol and cigarettes on his breath.
"What did you just say?" I squeezed my eyes shut and just felt my back being slammed against the wall.
"N-nothing." He nodded and walk to there room.
"That's what I thought." He mumbled before he closed the door behind him. I saw my mom on the floor crying. I went over and put my arm around her to give her comfort.

I woke up and decided I needed to get my mind off of things so I texted Paisley to see if she wanted to go to lunch. Luckily she said yes.
Paisley's POV
I curled my hair that was a little past my shoulders. It is reverse ombré. I put a little poof in it. It has little curls in it that aren't to extreme but I love them. I put on a long black sleeved shirt that said "Those were the days" on it and I put on light blue shorts. I wanted to look presentable so I put light make up on. I looked in the mirror.
"That'll do." I grabbed my purse and went downstairs to watch TV as I waited for Shawn.
I heard a knock on the door. I saw Brandon running towards the door so I bolted to try to get there first. He opened the door. Brandon smirked.
"So this is the boy my sister likes." I walked behind him and smacked his arm with the back of my hand.
"Brandon were just friends and we just met yesterday." He rolled his eyes and walked away. I turned to Shawn who was blushing but still had a smile on his face.
"Sorry about that." He laughed.
"Haha it's no problem. Shall we." He led me to his car. I got in and buckled myself in.
"So where to?" He smirked.
"It's a surprise." I just laughed and shook my head.
