Chloe POV
Ever since that shopping day, I couldn't stop thinking about the way Josh's eyes sparkled when he smiled, or how the corners of his mouth quirked upward into a perfect half moon. I was still dreaming about it when I met Paige at the Old Oak.
"Hey Chlo!!!!" Paige was thrilled, and obviously, the date had gone well.
"Hey," I said absently, trying not to make my dreaming too obvious.
"Guess what?" Paige said, ignoring my absence from the conversation. "Landon is perfect for me!"
"How old is he?" I asked randomly, not exactly paying attention.
"Um...random, but okay...he's seventeen!" Paige and I turned sixteen this year, and we didn't have our driver's license just yet, so it helped to have a guy like Landon around. She glanced at me.
"Who are you thinking about?" She asked suddenly.
"What?" I asked, totally out of it. "Oh, um, no...I'm not thinking about anyone..." my voice trailed off which told her the opposite.
"Yeah, right," Paige said, smirking at me. "Is it my brother?" She said, totally catching me off guard. It was as though my thoughts were being displayed on a screen in front of us.
"No," I said, a little too quickly. Wow, I never realized how sucky I am at lying.
"Oh please, Chloe," she said, giving me a look. "I saw the way you two talked to each other when you gave him those jeans." She studied me, as though deciding something. "I think he likes you."
"Really?" I gushed before I could stop myself. "Crap," I said, covering my mouth with my hand.
"Ha! Got you!" Paige looked satisfied.
"Does he really though?"
"I think so," Paige said, studying me again. "I saw him checking you out after you gave him those jeans."
"Really," I said, trying to play it cool this time. We had arrived at the school now, and we would soon split for first period. "Well, tell me later!" I called to Paige as she walked towards the gym for P.E.
The bell rang and I rushed to first period. Just before I walked into class, I felt a hand on my shoulder. It was warm, smooth, and slightly sweaty.
"Josh," I breathed.
"Hey Chlobird," he breathed at my ear. I turned around to look at him. "I forgot to pay you back Friday when you gave me those jeans." He said, suddenly all business-like.
"Oh," that was all I could manage.
"Here," he leaned in closer to me and I sucked in a sharp breath. Is he going to do what I think he's going to do?
But he didn't. Instead, he pressed a wad of dollar bills into my palm, the warmth of his touch lingering on my skin. With that done, he moved away and walked down the hall way. My cheeks were flushed red. The feeling of his breath on my ear and his touch on my skin was enough to make me scream with happiness. But I held it in, and the fireworks ended up exploding inside of me.
Best. Day. Ever.
