Ara Jean P.O.V (Point Of View)
"A shadow-what?" I ask Jace curiously.
"A shadowhunter. We are half angel/ half human hybrids that keep this world safe from demons. We have on glamours most of the time so mundanes like you won't be able to see us. That's why I was so surprised when you could actually see me and not just see through me," Jace says while brushing back locks of his perfect golden blonde hair. "You haven't dealt with demons or downworlders before, have you?"
"I don't thinks so. Then again my dog was supposedly a demon so I'm not really sure. Also remember I'm not a shadowhunter so I don't understand all your weird terms yet. So unless you have like a shadowhunter dictionary or something I-
"Here," Jace says handing me an old rusty book. "This will explain everything. It's my girlfriend's copy of the Shadowhunter's Codex. It has markings from where we've-uh-tweaked things. It's the closest thing you'll get to a mundane dictionary."
"Thanks," I mumble taking the heavy book from his hands. While grabbing it my hand brushes against his. If I can feel him, he has to be real! Right? Apparently Jace has a weird looking tattoo on his hand that resembles an eye. I wonder what the eye tattoo on real-looking Jace means?
"Do all shadowhunters get a bunch of tattoos at an early age or is this just a personal thing?" I ask eyeing all the tattoos that snake around his arms.
"God, you have a lot to learn. These aren't real tat-
I can tell he was about to say something else but before he can finish Jace suddenly yanks me down and puts his finger against my lips.
"Um so are you going to tell me what those tattoo things are for or not?" I ask in a whisper.
Jace ignores my comment and stares at me with annoyance. "For a girl who has never met demons, they sure like you a lot." I glance over to my backyard where two creatures with scaled white skin and bulging pupil-less eyes are quickly advancing towards us.
Jace mutters something in a foreign language and then moves towards the demons with agilty. I turn away, afraid, unaware of what is going on behind me. Then I hear a sickening noise that lets me know the demons are dead. Gagging I turn around to see Jace cleaning off his weapon.
"Are you sure you don't know what's going on mundie? There have been 3 demons at your house in 1 day." he says the word mundie with distaste.
"UGH! Listen Jace the demonhunter or whatever you call yourself! I am just a mundane girl, as you have clearly stated many times, that just learned of what you are TODAY! No I haven't encountered demons and no I don't hang with downworlders in my freetime. So no I have no clue what is going on! You are the one who keeps showing up in MY life and I'm tired of the stares I get from people when I talk to you. Now if you'll excuse me I have a life to attend to. Good luck with yours."
I slowly walk away from him, my backyard and the shadow world. The last thing I hear is Jace softly swearing in that same language. The one that I don't understand.
Jace P.O.V. (Point Of View)
As the girl walks away I take care of the Raum demons in her backyard. As I dispose of their ugly bodies I feel a peace overcome me. As weird as it may sound to others killing demons actually relaxes me. Maybe because it's what I'm used to. I mean the first thing my father taught me was how demons are bad and need to be killed. Mundanes on the other hand don't even know demons exist.
In fact I sometimes wonder what it what it would be like as a mundane. Like she is. But she's no normal mundane. She has the rare ability of the sight. Just like Clary "did" before we found out she was actually a shadowhunter. Clary. That's who that girl reminds me of! Same flaming red hair, small structure and stubbornness. Coincidentally I realize she reacted just like Clary did when she found out about the Shadow world too. Annoyed and in disbelief.
Suddenly a flash of blue light behind me causes me to jump. Turning around I see Clary jumping out, her hair in braids. How ironic. I was just thinking about her.
"You portaled here?" I ask. Everytime she makes a portal I can't help but being impressed. Most of the time you need to hire warlocks to make portals but Clary can create her own runes that aren't in the Gray Book. Including the rune she made that creates portals.
"I did portal here! It's because I have some things I need to take care of over here. This is one of them."
Clary stands on her tip toes and gently presses her lips against mine. Smiling I kiss her back, forgetting everything that just happened. I just focus on her. Soft and delicate yet strong and stubborn. My Clary. A few moments later she pulls away and I look at her lustfully.
"By the angel I've wanted to do that too," I say grinning at Clary. "But tell me what else is going on. I know you didn't portal all the way here to make out with me. As handsome as I am."
She laughs. "Alec wanted me to make sure you were ok. But I know Raum demons are nothing on you. I remember when they went to retrieve Maya at Luke's house. Now look at you. Also you're needed at the Institute. Something about a mundane named Ara Jean."
