The Watchtower

"There's no failsafe.  This is an endgame.", Blue Beetle said sadly.  The Reach had planted MFDs all over the world, gathering enough steam to destroy the Earth.  Just then, a transmission from Belle Reve Penitentiary came in.  Lex Luthor and Queen Bee's faces appeared on the screen.  "What are YOU two-".  "Miss Waller was kind enough to allow us use of her frequency,", Bee said.  "As we have a possible solution to our mutual problem."

"A problem created by YOU and the Light, when they collaborated to bring the Reach to Earth!"  "True.  But the Light always planned to betray the Reach.  And Waller has promised that our sentences will be reduced from death to merely life in prison as a reward, should we use our sources to help you."  Lex Luthor held up a flash drive.  "LexCorp has developed anti-Reach software, a virus that should disable the magnetic field disruptors."

As they waited for the court's vote on their appeal, Miss Martian looked over at the handsome Kryptonian boy standing next to her.  He was back in his old Superboy uniform, with the black shirt and cargo jeans.  She had missed him so much while he was undercover, heartbroken thinking he was gone forever.  Now he was back where he belonged.  She bit her lip, thinking about what Nightwing had told her a few days ago.

"Conner?"  He looked over at her.  "Yes?"  She looked down at her feet.  "I just want you to know that...I'm sorry.  About everything.  What went wrong with our relationship was...all my fault."  He bit his own lip.  "Actually...it wasn't all your fault."  She looked up at him, surprised.  "What do you mean?"

He shook his head as he looked at the floor.  "I mean, yes, it was wrong of you to rip into other's mind, and to try to make me forget, but...I shouldn't have just given up on you like that.  All those months undercover gave me time to think.  I realized that if you really care about someone, you have to try and help them.  That's what I should've done.  I should've tried to help you see what you were doing was wrong, not throw you away when things got too hard."

She stared at him with wonder and curiosity.  "All that time away made you think of me?"  He chuckled.  "Oh, yeah!  I thought about you all the time!  Who knew so much distance could make you think about the one you love so-". Suddenly, he realized who he was talking to.  His eyes grew wide as she stared back at her, afraid to move.  Slowly, a small smile found it's way onto her lips.  "I thought about you all the time, too.  It broke my heart to believe that I was never going to see you again."

He smiled at her before the judge appeared and announced all the charges against the Justice League had been dropped.  Conner and M'gann grinned from ear to ear.  Suddenly, M'gann leaped up and threw her arms around Conner's neck, hugging him tightly.  "We did it!"  "You did it.", Icon said.  "The Justice League owns both it's freedom and reputation to you, and the Team."  "Thank, but we've gotta get back to Earth.  Can you handle things here?"  "Of course.  Go."

The Flash, Kid Flash and Impulse ran circles around the chrysalis energy explosion, trying to contain it to save the world. Blue Beetle watched the whole thing. Earth's magnetic field is stabilizing., the Scarab told him. But there is a problem, Jaime Reyes. The Kid Flash is in danger. His slower speed is making him an exit valve, for the chrysalis energy. In exactly one minute, he will cease. "Cease? Cease what?"

Bart saw Wally get zapped by the energy. Oh no!, he thought. Nothing's happening to KF! Not on my watch! He slowed down a little bit, reached out, and grabbed Wally by the hand. "Let's go!" He sped up, taking Wally with him, whose legs were going faster in an attempt to keep up. After one more minute, the energy died down and disintegrated. "They did it!" The other Team members ran to congratulate the speedsters.

Artemis saw her Wally panting to catch his breath, as if he'd just woken from a coma. She wrapped her arms around his left one. "You okay, Baywatch?" He looked at her with wide, shocked eyes. "Babe! I saw my life flash before my eyes! No pun intended." He shook his head. "The energy was zapping me when Bart came and grabbed me by the arm, taking me with him in his speed. If it weren't for him, who knows what would've happened to me!" He went over to Bart and smiled, putting his hand on his shoulder. "You saved my life, Bart. You really do deserve to be the next Kid Flash." Bart found himself unable to stop smiling.

M'gann looked over at Robin and Wonder Girl, holding hands as they talked to the newest addition to the Team, Virgil, AKA Static. She heard a low, rough voice from behind her. "Since when are Tim and Cassie a couple?" She smiled, knowing exactly who that voice belonged to. "Since Wally nearly perished. Now he's going around, telling everyone that life is short, and you have to take action while you still can. He gave Cassie the courage to...kiss him." "That kinda courage..." "Can be hard to come by.", she said as she turned around, and got a big surprise.

Conner was wearing the exact same uniform for when he was undercover with Aqualad. Same dark brown material, same black belts, same thick leather boots. The only difference was he still had his black hair and blue eyes. She blinked twice. "You're suited up...as the Hunter?" Conner looked down at himself. "Well, a lot of our friends are changing...I figured its time I changed, too. I feel like I've outgrown Superboy. I think I'm ready to be my own hero. This just feels...right." He put on his black eye mask. "So, let's see how the Hunter does." "As a hero?" He nodded smiling. "Yeah."

M'gann looked down. "I see. You're changing. We all are." She sighed. Superboy had loved her with all his heart. If he was changing, so were his feelings. Surely, the Hunter only saw her as a friend. Suddenly, she felt a strong yet soft hand take hers. She turned around to see Conner hold it to his cheek. "Not everything is changing. One thing about me will never change." With that spoken, he dove in and boldly pressed his lips to hers, picking up where they'd left off in the caves.

She let out a tiny "eep!" before returning his kiss, her fingers finding their way into his hair. His arms wrapped around her waist, while hers hung around his neck. Breaking the kiss, they stared into each other's eyes, never daring to look away. He smiled mischievously. I love you. Her eyes widened hearing him in her mind, before closing in bliss. I love you, too. "Team, report to the mission room." They smiled at each other. Together?, he thought. She nodded. Together. They unwrapped themselves from each other's embrace, lacing their fingers together, and walking to the main room of the Watchtower.

Together.
