I woke up with my head feeling heavy. I opened my eyes slightly, as far open as the bright light around me would allow. I felt two arms around me and I looked up into an unfamiliar face.

"Hey there. I'm Jake. I heard screams coming from inside the house as I was jogging past and forced myself to go in and investigate. Good thing I did, otherwise you might have never met such a handsome, smart guy like me." The stranger said.

"Not to mention arrogant," I wanted to say but my throat was bone dry.

He realised my throat was too dry to speak and offered me some of his water he carried while jogging, I presumed. I unwillingly took the water not wanting to make him think I owe him one, that would have made him even more up himself.

We were on the lawn in front of Pete's house. I tried to get up my body was too weak. Jake helped me up and held me so I didn't fall. I struggled to get out of his arms but I pulled a little too hard and fell to the ground. He reached out his hand to help me up again.

"I'm fine." I snapped, pushing his hand away.

"I need to get home." I said scrambling to my feet, just to be taken over by dizziness. He caught me just as I began to lose my balance again. I gave up protesting and allowed him to carry me home. I gave him the address and we started walking.

About half way to my house I remembered the phone in Pete's house ringing just before I fainted.

"Was the phone ringing in the room where you found me?" I asked Jake.

" No I don't think so. There wasn't a phone in the room, or anywhere in the house for that matter. I was looking for one to call someone when I found you, but I couldn't find one. So I carried you out just as you started to wake up. By the way, why were you in that house alone and why dis you faint?" Jake said realising something was up.

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Of course there was a phone in that room! I saw it; I touched it right before everything went black. He must have not looked properly.

"There was a phone right in front of me. I touched it! It was on the desk right next to all the pages spread over the desk!" I said, being sure of what I had seen, kind of reassuring myself by it.

Jake laughed. "How hard did you hit your head? There was nothing on the desk. No pages, no phone."
