Zoe POV

"Oh god Alfie. I think it's time."

On the way to the hospital the pain was unbearable. "CAN YOU NOT GO ANY FASTER ALFIE?" I screamed into his ear. "I'm sorry Zoe, I'm going as fast as I can we will be there soon."

When we got to the hospital Alfie helped me out of the car and we had to stop multiple times because I was having contractions every few minutes. Alfie gave me a backrub and held my hand through the contractions. Finally, we made it through the hospital doors.

As soon as we entered we were assigned a delivery room where we would stay until the babies were born. A nurse came in and gave me an ugly hospital gown which I would have to wear while giving birth, and until I left the hospital. I lay down on the bed in our room and finally realised that in a few hours or so our beautiful new borns will be alive. Alfie said he would call his parents, my parents, Poppy and Joe to tell them it's go time. I was gripping onto Alfie's hand because I had a particularly bad contraction, when a familiar face popped his head around the door. "Hey guys! I'm glad to see you here, and I'm glad that I've been assigned your doctor to help during the birth!" Alfie and I were saying in the car how much we wanted Dan to be our doctor in the birth, thank god he is!

"Okay Zoe, I'm going to need you to spread your legs for me." I did as I was told. "Okay then... Oh my goodness you are already about seven centimetres dilated, you should be on track to deliver tonight."

Our families arrived three hours after Doctor Dan inspected me. At this point I felt like I was about to pass out. The contractions were coming with one-minute intervals and I was determined not to have any drugs. Doctor Dan entered again. "Hi everyone, I'm going to need to do another little check up on Zoe. Spread your legs please Zoe." I spread my legs and unfortunately for Joe he wasn't able to turn his head quick enough. "Oh my god Zoe that's actually disgusting I can see the head coming out." "Joseph! Don't be so rude!" My parents both shout at Joe simultaneously. "Joe may be being rude, but he's correct. You are ten centimetres dilated and the head is crowning. It's time to push." Our families responded with cheers and "whoop whoops", whereas I responded with a deep, angry groan as the next contraction came on. "Okay Zoe, I'm going to walk you through this, during this contraction I want you to take small pants, and when the next one comes on I need you to push your chin right down into your chest and use all your might to try and push the first baby out, okay?" I nod and try to smile but can't with all the pain.

As the contraction came I pushed as hard as I could for ten seconds, and repeated the pushing twice. Finally, I felt the baby slip out of me and at last heard a cry. "The girl's out! Alfie would you do the honour of cutting your daughter's umbilical chord?" "My pleasure." I could see Alfie crying over our little baby girl, he gave her a kiss on her nose. "She's beautiful Zo." "I know, I can tell without even looking at her." I reply with tears streaming down my face. "Alfie could you give her to your parents I need you to help Zoe push." Alfie did as he was told and gripped on to my clammy hand. "Okay Zoe, I need you to do exactly as you did before." I start to push but then a beeping noise on my monitor goes off and I start to panic. "Dan, what does that mean is everything all right, why isn't the baby out yet?!" "Everything should be fine Zoe, don't worry, but baby's heart rate is dropping so we need to get him out now. You need to push as hard as possible, otherwise we may have to do an emergency caesarean." That was not on the birth plan, and there was no way I was going to let something not on the birth plan slip into my delivery. No way. I screamed and screamed and pushed until I was drenched in sweat. Dan told me I was very nearly there. Finally, I heard a cry for the second time. Alfie cut the chord of our son and handed him to my parents.

*1 hour later*

Finally the babies had had all their tests and they were very happy and healthy. Our daughter weighed 7.4 pounds and our son weighed 7.6 pounds, both perfect weight.

"So everyone... are you ready to hear the babies' names?"

"Yes, yes, yes!!!" they all screamed. Alfie started by saying "So... our beautiful son is called Taylor James Deyes." And I finished off by saying "And our equally beautiful daughter is called Ava Rose Deyes, after nanny Rose." Each set of parents were absolutely in bits, and Uncle Joe and Aunty Poppy were bonding with the babies. I was grateful for the life and future I had just received. I knew it was going to be pure heaven.
