"But sir, if you just give me a couple more months I can have the money to pay for the house." I over heard my mom say to the person on the phone.

My mom has been going out a lot. She drinks, she parties, and she gambles. That's why we are losing my house.

"Did they reason with you?" I asked my
Mom, who had her hand on for forehead.
She shook her head slowly.
"Maybe you can stop drinking and gambling and partying and we can work together to find something smaller for Cheap." I said trying to be encouraging.
"Rob, you're 16... You should be minding your own business." She looked me in the eyes and said sternly.
"But we could make a better life!" I insisted.
"ROBIN, STOP! You're not helping! You are just another body I have to feed!" She screamed.
"I'm the only body you have to feed! Since you are drinking YOUR BODY away!" I yelled back.
"Robin, you were just a mistake. Get out of my sight." She said calmly.
I rubbed my brow as I realized that this wasn't going to get any better.

I watched as I saw her walk into the trashed  kitchen and grab a bottle of vodka and walk into her bedroom.

"Ugh." I said to myself.
I walked into my living room and searched the room for couch cushions to set back onto the couch.
I set them on the couch and sat on them. I closed my eyes and imagined what it would be like to live on my own in the big world. It wasn't great but it was better than living here in this crap house.
I've come to realize that I think more than I speak.

I laid my head back. I started dosing off when I heard the loudest knock on my front door. I immediately jumped up onto my feet and thought,"Phae?"

I ran to my front door as fast as I could and opened it.
"What's wrong, Phae?" I asked.

She explained how her father hit her again. He has always been abusive to her and her mother and that she wanted to run away. But we both agreed that we wouldn't run away until we knew we needed to. Well, we needed to. She stabbed her father in the eye. But that's okay. He deserved it. He should just be lucky that I didn't get to him first.

I grabbed Phae's hand and lead her to my car. I opened the passenger door for her as she entered. I ran inside and grabbed my superhero themed keychain.
When I finally got into my car music was blasting.
"Phae! Why is the music so loud?!" I screamed so she could hear me.
"I want it to drown my thoughts!" She said back.
Drowning my thoughts with music? Perfect!

We left.
