I woke up to the hawaiian waves crashing on shore near the house. Once I gained consciousness, I realized I lay in a pool of blood. I screamed. I was in such shock, my mind did me no good. It was '1running a million miles an hour, I heard loud footprints running down the hall It was Edith. She finally reached our bedroom, she was out of breath and sweaty. "What?" She asked. "The b-b-bed" I sobbed. She walked over to the bed and moved the sheet. She saw the blood and a screamed escaped from her mouth. "You have to get to the hospital now!" She screamed

I sat in silent, shaking my head no.

"We we have to. The baby." She sputtered as she wiped tears from her eyes.

I didn't answer

"P-p-please! For me and the baby." She continued but I wasn't listening.

I finally gave in. "Fine." I said tired and sad

We arrived to hospital, ironically the same one I worked at. I prayed and hoped that our baby would not end up like the babies I work with everyday. I saw babies die in that NICU all the time. The chances of our baby thriving at this age weren't good.

They ushered us back to a room as soon as we got there. Partly, because I owned most of the hospital and because of the seriousness of my symptoms. They asked all the normal usual questions. They ran blood, and ordered an ultrasound. When the ultrasound tech came in he asked if we would want to keep the pictures. Edith gladly answered yes, I didn't answer. He found the baby. "It looks like your son is alive and healthy."

"What?" Edith & I asked in unison.

"Your baby boy is healthy."

"Boy?"

"Oh! I'm so sorry. Most parents have found out by this far along."

"We were keeping it a secret. Until now, but it's okay."

He gave us the pictures. We stared at them for an almost eternity. It was like we just found out we were having a baby again. "Now we can pick a name..."I waited for an answer.

"What were you thinking? Conor or Jack?"

"Jack." My smile grew the size of Texas.

"Perfect." She smiled

We were finally happy.. Together. We talked about his (The baby) nusery and him growing up. Our future. We were finally discharged, I was put on bed rest.
