The boy was leaning against the wall next to the gaming arcade's entrance as he waited. The light from its signage was reflecting on the slippery icy sidewalk of the road. He adjusted the glass that rested on the bridge of his nose then ran a hand through his newly dyed dark hair before pulling up the hood further to hide his face from the cold weather.
Soon, he saw a young boy jogging his way toward the arcade. The older boy easily recognized him from the picture he saw before. He signaled by raising his hand. The young boy smiled seeing him. They shook hands after he advanced the older boy.
The younger boy looked more smaller than usual 13-14 years old boys, thought the older boy.
"Nice to finally meet you in flesh, bro!" The younger boy grinned, excited about this encounter. "It's my pleasure, Peter." The older boy smiled and ruffled Peters hair. "Thanks for coming on such short notice."
"Anything for the boss." Peter mocked a salute to the older boy. The older boy chuckled before his face expression grew serious.
"Thanks and I really hate to go straight to the business but I need a place to crash for a few days." Peter nodded, matching a serious expression like him. He was ready to help him in anyway when he first received a message from him asking for his help. "I have money and everything else I need with me so you don't have to worry about those. Just find me a safe place to stay for the moment. I don't know anyone else from here besides you, who can help me. I hope its not too much to ask for."
"Of course not, bro." Peter assured him. He paused,"I say you stay at me place." He offered.
"Is that okay? what would you tell your family?" The hooded boy wasn't sure. He didn't want to cause any trouble for Peter for helping him.
"It's okay. It's just me and my mom. I think she'll be happy to have another member." Peter told him.
"Okay then" The other boy let out a sigh of relief. "Let's head to your place. I already have my things with me." He showed the bag by adjusting the strap over his shoulder.
"Okay. My place isn't very far. So we can walk from here." Peter was excited to be able to help him. He spun from his spot and told the other boy to follow him.
As they walked to Peters home, the hooded boys stomach rumbled slightly. For the last two days his diet consisted of a few canned coffee and chewing gums because he didn't want to leave the motel ground he was staying at. Call it paranoia but he couldn't risk it. He would get himself something decent to eat when he'd reach at Peters, he thought.
The boy looked above as he silently followed Peter. He clutched on the strap of his bag, hoping he would not get into any trouble this time.
Every step he took, was filled with bitter emotions.
