(Sheik's POV)
|Dream|
I was 17 years old.
I was training myself in the way of the sword.
I heard a screech, making me jump.
Sekki.
That was the first thing that came to my mind. I ran towards the sound and was met with a horrible sight. There was a Holy Knight slashing away at Sekki wildly. I almost screamed in panic but I held it in. He didn't know I was here. I put my sword on the ground and took out my dagger. I took a breath before I ran up behind him and jumped on his back. He was caught off-guard and before he could recover, I slashed his throat. His body fell on top of mine as he collapsed. I dropped the dagger from my hands and looked at the blood that now stained them. The Holy Knight's blood. I began to shake and panic. I just killed a man.
|End Dream|
My eyes snapped open as I came back to reality. I've had this dream so many times. The memory still plays in my head and it happened nearly 6 years ago. That was the one and only man I killed. I couldn't do it again even if I tried. I was scarred. I was only 17. I wish I stayed innocent. I wished that Holy Knight had actually listened to me. Because of people blaming me, my dreams and dreams became more violent. Now the dreams sometimes make me believe that I actually killed him in cold blood. Initially, I had warned him but because he continued to attack, I was forced to kill or be killed. But now, all I see is myself slicing the Holy Knight up with my dagger.
I heard the bushes rustle beside me and my head snaps towards them. Sekki's head pops through the thick underbrush, making me jump slightly. He slinks over towards me and lays his head onto my lap. He lets out a large sigh before closing his eyes. I let out a small chuckle before scratching his jawline. His head jerks back at the sudden pleasurable feeling, hitting my abdomen which in turn makes my back hit the tree. My injury flared up and I let out a grunt of pain. Sekki immediately lifted his head up and began sniffing me. He always sniffs me when he wants to know something about me. He can't speak the human tongue but he can understand it.
"You just bumped my wound a little, no big deal. You can relax." I sigh, patting the top of his head.
To me, his facial expression showed some guilt before it returned to its neutral expression. He lies his head down, gingerly this time, and holds still when I give his jaw a scratch again.
"Shiek-"
I threw my dagger towards the voice, not expecting anyone to show up here unless I was followed. The figure blocks the dagger with his spear and gives a yelp of surprise.
"Why did you do that?!" he squealed.
"Hmm, let's see. I'm a wanted criminal, no one else knows how to get in here unless I was followed, shall I go on King?" I snorted.
"No, no, I get it. Sorry." King says.
"So why are you here?" I asked harshly.
"You're injured and you're wanted. I was a little worried." he confessed.
"Don't be. I've only just met you." I frowned.
"Doesn't mean I can't be worried about an injured woman." he defends.
I roll my eyes and do not respond. Sekki grumbles as I stopped scratching his chin to talk with King. He gives a loud moan before opening his eyes to glare at the man.
"Are you going to come back?" he asks.
"Probably not. I have to stay on the move due to my current situation." I shrugged.
"May I ask why you are wanted?" he questions, stepping closer to me and plopping on the ground.
"I am being blamed for killing a Holy Knight in cold blood." I said, my face devoid of any emotion.
I preferred not to remember the gruesome incident but obviously that can not and will not happen.
"Why did you kill him?" King asks, not knowing that he's picking at an old wound.
"It's a long story. Surely not very interesting to most people." I decided.
King just continued to gaze at me, giving me a quick hand motion that told me to keep going. I thought for a moment before I began to unravel my story to a boy I just met.
"It was kill or be killed. The Holy Knight was hunting Sekki and since it was a Holy Knight, Sekki refused to fight back. I was seventeen and had a close bond with him. Fearing for his life, I charged between them and held up my hands to the man. I told him to stop and that if he continued to attack, I would have to defend my friend. As you could probably guess, the knight did not stop so I had to fight him. He gave one small opening during our battle that allowed me to end the fight I didn't want to kill him, I swear!" I said, slowly getting louder as my story ended.
"It's okay, I believe you. You seem to be a nice person." King says, putting his hand on my shoulder.
"What do you mean 'seem'?" I rolled my eyes.
"Well, you're kind of intimidating." he mumbles.
"Well I would be intimidating to a young kid like you." I joked.
"I'm not a kid, for your information." he harrumphed.
"What? You can't possibly be older than 11!" I squabble.
"I happen to be over 3,000 years old." he smirks.
"What?! It doesn't show!" I shouted, quite surprised at my new companion.
"Well, I am a fairy and quite a young one at that. Fairies live for a long time, you know." King lectures.
"Oh, so that's why you float." I say, answering my own question.
"What did you think I was doing?" King laughs.
"I don't know, I thought I was drunk or something!" I confessed.
We both laughed at each other, equally enjoying this peaceful moment. I don't get very many of these.
