The sound was all around me now,
It drowned out my whimpers and cries, and as soon as it had begun, it stopped.
Dead quiet.
I pulled my jacket up, and trudged on.
Then I stopped. I could barely hear it, but it was there. A crunch of leaves and a snuffling sound behind me. I took a step. Another crunch.
This thing was following me. I took another step and another. Soon I was sprinting as fast as my legs could carry me, and then it happened. A loud, unearthly shriek pierced the calm of the night and sent me running again through the dark woods. Then I fell of into a gorge or something. It wasn't very big but big enough to break a bone or two. I was falling... Falling... Falling... And then everything went black.
