Now if this was a regular story, It would start with: "Once upon a time," But this is not a happy story, This is a dreadful sad tale of a girl named Elizabeth Garner, Or Eliza for short. Eliza is a young woman, around 22 years of age. She was born and raised in a bustling town, And of course all of those who know the feeling of living in a bustling town is that they are acquainted with lots of people bumping into them, stepping on there toes, pushing and shoving you, or falling asleep on your left shoulder and letting themselves drool all over your smock. But in this new town Eliza is now in, everything is much different.
This small town is called Liverpool, a dreadful town in North Carolina, near the edge of the state. Liverpool, does not sound like a very satisfying town, Now does it? It actually makes me feel queasy thinking of the name. To our beautiful Eliza, She thought this town was strange and quiet, compared to the big town she has grown up in. But of course, you're thinking: "Why would anyone from the big city want to go live in a putrid little town named Liverpool?" Well, our sweet Eliza is a caring and kind person. As a child she has always wanted to help people, especially children. So, As soon as our little Eliza had grown up into a fine young woman she decided she was going to become a caretaker at a orphanage.
Now why she chose Liverpool out of all places, I still wonder to this day. She could have chosen to find an orphanage around her home and stayed far away from the terrible town of Liverpool, But, Eliza is a girl with big dreams and ambitions. She wanted to choose a town that seemed to need the most help, And Liverpool needed all the help it could get. So on May 4th, 1932, 6:58 AM, Our Eliza arrived by train to the state, and then drove by car to the pitiful town. As Eliza first got to the town, she noticed her watch was acting strange. It was turning and turning and going backwards and forwards in all kinds of unsettling ways! Of course Eliza dismissed this. "My watch must be broken, It is certainly acting strange!" She said simply. At arriving to the town, Eliza noticed how the town looked like any other town, with the grocery store and barber shop along with all the other simple boring things that you usually find within a town.
But...Something was off. Have you ever walked into a room and felt unsettled? Children always seem to have this feeling much more than a grown up, some say it is because a child still believes in monsters and scary ridiculous things like that, and do not know reality from fiction. Other's believe in things much more darker and nastier than that. Eliza instantly felt highly uncomfortable in the town, not to mention how there was no one around. As she drove along in her automobile, She did not see a single person or child in sight, the town also seemed to carry a solemn and gray feeling. "This town is awfully unsettling...Perhaps it is just me?" Eliza wondered aloud. Suddenly, a big black raven had appeared in her line of sight, with a gasp and a near shriek our brave Eliza hit the brakes with one heeled shoe. With a few quick breaths of worriment, Eliza had gotten out of the car like any normal person to peer at the poor animal she had injured.
As she peered at her windshield, She noticed a small amount of blood was splattered against her windshield along with black feathers and a half dead twitching raven was rested upon the roof of her car. Eliza then looked around more, to notice there were ravens nearly everywhere...three rested upon a sign while six were flying off and ten crowded upon a shop. The town was filled and covered in these large black birds of death. This made Eliza very very unsettled, since ravens represent death and misfortune in a lot of lore and legends. But, Our brave lass Eliza would not be scared by a bird, that is much too silly!
So, being the young woman she was she very quickly with utter disgust, pushed the bird off with a gloved finger, the dead carrion falling to the earth. Eliza then slipped back into her car, shutting the door and then driving away. She took a few turns to find a sign by the left side of a road. It read, "Liverpool Orphanage for The Clinically Disturbed or Unwanted Children" And That is when, our dear protagonist should have turned her car around and left. She should have gotten out of her car and ran away, ran away as far as she possibly could from Liverpool Orphanage, For it is one of the worst places on earth and this universe to be, for someone like Elizabeth Garner.
