"Wait, seriously?"
I felt my heart like it wanted to beat it's way out of my chest. The cafeteria line just moved slowly as I heard Cassidy talking to Trent.
"I have no idea. There's just this weird rumor that a girl from the student's conceal is a lesbian. Like, ew."
Cassidy's words echoed in my mind. Ew?
"That's not gross, it's hot!" I rolled my eyes at Trent's immaturity "Where did people even get that from?"
"I don't know. Someone said they saw two girls hooking up in the backyard at Kira's party" she said, taking a tuna fish sandwich and placing on her tray "I guess people don't know how to get a freaking room." She turned to me "did you hear anything about this, Laur?"
I just nodded in a negative way, biting my tongue so I wouldn't throw back the reply she deserved.
But someone saw us.
The picture was long gone
Wasn't it?
My eyes roamed through the cafeteria.
Who of all these people could've seen us? And if they did, why didn't they tell everyone about me?
What if they were about to?
I grabbed a box of orange juice and took my tray to our usual table, by the window.
They were all laughing.
"I mean, who guarantees that it wasn't you?" My head snapped back directly to Trent, who was laughing at Raini
"I'm not even gonna answer at how ridiculous that is. You know I'm not playing against my own team."
I struggled out a chuckle as they all laughed some more. I looked around. Cody wasn't here. He missed Chemistry too, so I suppose he skipped school again.
"How about you Laura?" Cassidy raised an eyebrow "Was it you hooking up with a girl that night?"
All their eyes turned to me, a humor in them. But the fun was slowly fading from their expressions as I took awhile to answer, my eyes roaming each and every one of their faces, thinking of a way to get out of this without a shaking voice. Finally, a thought crossed my head. And there was no time to think it over, since I only regretted them after hearing the words come out of my mouth.
"If I wasn't in the bedroom with Lynch, probably."
Their smiles faltered and the girls squealed "wait, Lynch as in Ross Lynch?"
I nodded at Kira as Raini turned to me
"I thought you said he was a one night mistake?"
I hoped my laugh didn't come out as fake as I thought and said "A mistake good enough to be done twice."
"So that's why you were taking a ride with him!" Kira lowed down her voice as she leaned closer "are you guys like, a thing now?"
I took a deep breath, thinking how I was gonna untangle myself from this huge web of lies
"I wouldn't call us that" I shrugged "...yet."
---
"You did what now?!"
"I'm sorry! I panicked, okay?" My fingers found their way to the hem of my shirt as I looked everywhere but his eyes "This is just as embarrassing for you as it is for me."
"Oh, is it? Because I don't see someone knocking on your car window on the stoplight just to ask if you're dating me."
My mouth dropped "They didn't."
