It was a chilly, November day. Everything was still and quiet. The only things you could hear were the rustles of the late, autumn leaves, falling to the shadowy pavement. I was walking to the library to return my books.
I arrived and walked inside. I walked up to the center desk and said, "Good evening Mrs. Lamberette. I'm here to return my books."
"Oh, well hello my dear. Good evening to you too. And you know where to put them, in the usual spot," the old librarian told me.
As soon as I put my books down on her desk, I took off ready to search for the next book to the romance series I'm reading. I know it's cheesy, but I'm a total hopeless romantic. I've never even had a boyfriend.
Maybe that's why I read so much romance. Because the only way to find it for me is in literature. That's only because I'm the school nerd and no one likes me. When I walk by, all I hear is,"Eww! It's Brooklyn!" and "Look, there's that one teacher's pet!" I guess I could be considered a freak.
I don't think it's right that they think I'm weird because I'm smart. And I care about school. And teachers actually like me. But whatever. Bullies will be bullies. Nerds will nerds.
After an hour or so, I found 3 good books to borrow. "Bye Mrs. Lamberette! See you later!" I yelled to her. Scattered eyes glared at me from silent readers.
As I walked home, something didn't feel right. Something just seemed out of place.
I got home and dragged my book bag to my room. I lied down on my hard bed. I only have one pillow which I'm sure now, is probably just a pillow case and a few pieces of cotton left inside. Envy crept through my bones as I thought about all of the popular girls at my school that have anything they want.
I decided to read some of the new books from the library so I grabbed them from my book bag. I opened to the 1st page and tried to focus on the words. I just couldn't do it. Again, I felt that something was wrong. That deep in the gut feeling that tells you, get out, and get out quick.
