I stepped at the edge of the brick sidewalk, hailing down a taxi. I stood there dumbfounded in the heart of New York City until finally one bothered to stop. I gave him the address to the airport which just so happened to be an hour away...

Great.

The taxi ride was long and there was still 20 minutes left. The weather was dreary and rain hit against the clear window. It was dead silent and all that filled my ears was the sound of wind shield wipers and beating rain. My headphones were in my bag, out of my reach, and it seems like sleep was my only option.

~
I was awoken to my head being jerked back to a dead stop as the driver slammed on the brakes, making my head hit the back of the seat causing a kink in my neck to form.

I grabbed my bags and left a 20 dollar bill on the side consul for the driver. I unfolded an umbrella and let it hang over me as I entered the airport and took in every last sight of New York.

Security was a bitch but once I passed them things seemed to get pretty simple. I walked to the nearest coffee shop and picked up a latte, the same way I get it every time... 2 sugars, no cream.

People lined up in narrow columns of identical black leather chairs for the plane to bored. I sipped on my coffee waiting for an announcement. "Please excuse the interruption, all bording plane A24 to Seattle Washington, your flight is sadly moved back an hour due to weather and safety precautions." The voice from above said.

Doesn't this day get better any better...

I sensed someone next to me and I looked over to see a boy with long hazel hair and sapphire blue eyes. I couldn't help but hear the music blaring from his headphones. I glanced at him attempting to get his attention but nothing seemed to work. I pulled the plug from his ear and he shot his shining blue eyes at me like I did something wrong.
"Can you turn it down, I can kinda hear it from here..." I said annoyed. He simply turned the music up louder and put the plug back in his ear. I shook my head with zero patients and sipped my latte. "Excuse you..?" I asked once again. But he didn't bother to answer. I yanked the cord from his phone, making the music disconnect from his head phones and now blast out loud.

Wait...

I knew the lyrics...

It just so happened to be my favorite song,'Welcome to paradise.'

"Seriously...!" He said putting the cord back in his phone. He gave me an annoyed expression.
"Wait give me one." I exclaimed, taking a plug from his hand and shoving it in my ear without hesitation. He looked at me questioningly like I was crazy. "You like green day huh..?" He said with a slight chuckle. I giggled at his remark. "I guess you could say that." I stated but had an awkward smile plastered on my face. He took the cord out from his ear and set out his hand for me to grab. "Im Nash and sorry I think we got off on the wrong foot..." He said shining his bright smile that could almost stop traffic.
"Oh it's Rae." I said hesitantly. Trying to introduce myself.

Shit.

My cheeks flushed making me go hot.

"Attention all bording flight A24, we are now departing please make your way to the exit now."

"Well, that's me... I guess I'll see you around."

"Um I'm riding the same plane as you."

Shit

"Oh right.." I said completely embarrassed to the point as to where my head hurt.

I grabbed my bags and rolled them behind me up the ramp, into the plane.

"Sit by me." He suggested. I followed next to him and walked in the trail of cologne he left.

He sat down first, next to the window as I sat beside him. "So, where you going?" He asked putting up his bags. "Well... Good question I don't really know myself..."

"What do you mean?" He said slightly confused but still kept a smile on his face. "I needed to get away from my parents you know... They think they can plan how I have to live my life but they can't so I guess I'm here now, what about you?"

"Well I told my family I'm looking at colleges, but I'm actually trying to find my birth dad..." He said, twirling with his fingers while keeping his head down. I could see the slight sparkle in his ocean blue eyes but he didn't even bother to make eye contact. He shuffled through his bag and took out his phone. He plugged his head phones back in and untangled them. "Here." He said gesturing for me to take the other cord. "Just don't unplug it like last time." He said with a chuckle. "Shut up." I said laughing at his slight remark.

He's looking for his birth dad..?

He seemed intriguing and interesting, and I loved it.

I watched him as he turned the music up all the way and set his head back. The rain from outside the window gleamed in his eyes. And just as he shut his eyes, the plane was already above the clouds.
