it was creeping 8 in the morning and here i was, for the first time ever, ever in my life, standing in an OR room. operating. i have been standing in the same position for over two hours and i was becoming stiff. "v fib!" a nurse calls out. "crap. starting cpr." mereidth moves down to the chest area. "he's lost tons of blood. this was a risky surgery in the first place." she spoke nervously. "what else can we do?" i ask her. "nothing." she stops pumping her hands on his chest. "time of death, 7:54 am." she takes her gloves, scrub cap off, and moves the hair out if her face. "it was way to risky." she repeated. "that was my first surgery. ever. and he... he just... died. just like that. we did everything we were supposed to and he still died. wha- how. i mea-" I was at a lost for words. "it's okay briton. things happen. it comes with the job. if you want to be a good surgeon, then you need to always be prepared for the worst." her words comforted me. she patted me on the back and left the OR. i followed soon behind her.

[b] hey josh!
[j] hey briton! what's up? aren't you supposed to be at the hospital?
[b] not much. just got out of my first ever surgery, it was awesome! except for the part my patient died. :(
[j] oh, that sucks. was wondering if maybe you want to get some dinner after your shift tonight?
[b] of course! see you at 7 ;)

i place my phone in my pocket and finished mereidth's post ops. "excuse me? are you briton hayes?" a tall figure was hovering over me. "yes sir. why?" it was chief hunt. 'don't think about what your thinking about. you saw nothing going on between dr. yang and hunt. nothing briton. nothing' "your supposed to be on dr. shepherd's service today. why are you still on dr. greys?" i swallowed hard. "uh, im sorry chief. iI forgot to check, i was in surgery all night and it totally pass my mind. i'll go find him." i grinned and made my way toward neuro.
"dr. shepherd." i came up behind him. "hillary clark. age 50. here for her brain tumor to be removed. we've waited long enough, haven't we mrs. clark?" he laughed a little. "of course we have. i've been ready for this day since the day i found out i had it." she spoke in a sarcastic tone. "alright, well dr. hayes here is going to get you preped and take you up to the OR soon!" he closed her chart and handed it to me.

hours later, mrs. clark was being wheeled into the operating room. "thank you dr. hayes. you can go now." he abruptly told me. "what? i thought since i preped her, i would at least get to scrub in?" i couldn't believe this. his shoulders shrugged. "sorry. goodbye briton." the door shut and i was alone.

i looked at my watch, 6:45. 'crap. dinner.' i jogged to the locker rooms, where i hurriedly changed into normal clothes. 'gosh it feels good to be out of scrubs.' "knock knock." a familiar voice was heard from the door. i jolt around to see josh standing there, looking hot as ever.

josh was a first year resident in pediatrics. his hair flowed like dr. shepherds, but only dirty blond. and his eyes, oh his eyes were a beautiful shade of green. he was a staggering 6'1 and thin. but god, he had muscles. lot of them, too. josh was wearing a grey and jade green baseball tee with dark denim jeans and the same color grey vans.

"you look beautiful, as always" his perfectly white teeth shined as his also perfect smile appeared.

"well, it's not like we have seen each other in anything but scrubs. but thank you, and you look handsome yourself." i walk towards him wrapping my arm around him.

at the restaurant, no ones was surrounding us, it was just me & josh. on our first date.

"what can i get you two this evening?"
"i'll have a caesar salad with a glass of red wine, please." she wrote my order down.
"and, i will take the filet mignon with a side of green beans. also, i'll take a glass of water." she nodded and left, taking our menus.

we talked the night away and before we knew it, the manager walked up to us and told us that we needed to pay, and leave, that the restaurant was closing soon.

we when reached my parents house, josh walked me up to the door. while walking, it started to sprinkle. that sprinkle turned into rain. and that rain turned into a downpour, real quick. "it's pouring!" i screamed. his face was glowing as i looked him in the eyes.

the whole world stopped. his arms embracing me in the pouring rain, our clothes soaking wet, no words coming out of either of our mouths.

"i had a great time tonight briton. you are really great!" i could tell he was speaking genuinely from his heart. "me too! we have to do this again!" i smiled. he leaned in, gently pressing his lips to mine. the rain had eased up, forming just a sprinkle once more. his lips pressed harder on mine, then moving down to my neck. this felt amazing, i never wanted it to stop. but it had to, my parents were inside probably watching tv or asleep already. i hate this. twenty six years old, still lives with your mom and dad and can't, for the life of her, have a love life.

i push is off, immediately regretting it. "i'm sorry josh. look, i know i told you this already but my parents are here, and trust me, if i lived by myself, you could come in. i just can't risk it. i still live here and as long as i do, i have to follow their rules." i still feel horrible. "it's okay! really. don't worry about it. i totally understand." he kisses my cheek and tells me goodnight.

'could this be my own mereidth and derek relationship?'

buzz buzz buzz. it was my pager. they needed me in the ER. fast. i called carry, one of my intern friends to see what was up.

"hey, got a page that they needed me in the ER, what's up?"

"four car pile up, one car had three in it, another had five, the other, two, and the last, one. gonna need some help. hurry!" she hung up.

driving there, i decide to call josh to ask him if he got a page, in case any kids were involved, but his phone must have been dead. it went straight to voicemail.
