If there was one thing that Jace couldn't stand, even more than ducks, it was Isabelle's cooking. Isabelle could kick ass in battle, but she couldn't make chicken soup if her life depended on it.
When Jace had finished training in the attic that morning, he decided to find something to eat. Stepping into the kitchen to find his step sister determinedly stirring a bowl of something he guessed to be pancake batter, he instantly regretted it.
"Jace!" Izzy exclaimed, spinning around to face him. Her hair was tied up in a pony tail, and she had a pink 'kiss the cook' apron thrown over her clothing. "I'm making this new recipe I found."
As Jace took in his surroundings, his appetite disappeared. On the counter beside Isabelle there were various fish heads, and other seemingly inedible items which Jace could not identify.
Swearing quietly to himself, Jace tired to conjure up an excuse to leave. "Oh, I ..um—"
"Good morning," a grumpy voice said, interrupting him. Without looking Jace already knew who it was; it was a voice as familiar to him as his own.
Jace spun around to face a tired looking Alec. The older boy, who was bare foot, still appeared to be in pyjamas, his dark hair falling messily into his sleepy eyes. Impatiently Alec brushed the strands away.
Jace felt a pang of guilt in his chest when he thought about how badly he wished he could have been the one to move the hair from his parabatai's dark blue eyes.
Alec, who noticed Jace was staring, hastily looked away, his cheeks bright red.
"Alec!" Izzy exclaimed. "I haven't seen you leave your room in so long, I began to wonder if you were even still alive."
Alec muttered a harsh response under his breath, and then sat down at the kitchen table, pouring himself a cup of coffee.
Jace's eyes wandered back to the slouched boy. As much as the Jace tried, he couldn't help but notice the marks on his friends neck. This time the blonde felt his cheeks warm up, the memory of last night still fresh in his mind.
After the war, Alec and Magnus had broken up. The breakup hit Alec hard, he refused to leave his room for days, and with Clary away on vacation with Jocelyn and Luke, Jace was left alone as well.
Jace had tried multiple times to try and get Alec out of bed, or to even eat, but every time he failed. Jace had had enough, he decided that this time he would not leave until he got Alec out of bed, and fed.
Alec's bedroom had become a war zone in the last week; the clothes Magnus had bought Alec were thrown all over the floor, and the plates of untouched food Izzy had brought her brother took up almost every surface in his room.
Sighing, Jace approached his parabatai's bed. The only signal that there in fact was a person in the bed was the mop of tangled black hair that stood out from under the covers.
Jace sat down on the edge of the bed. "Alec, enough of this! If you stay in this bed any longer I'm afraid you might start to become apart of it."
After a minute, the dark haired boy had still given no response. Taking measures into his own hands, Jace grabbed the covers and pulled them off the bed. "I'm not going to let my best friend sit here and decay because of some stupid, sparkly wizard!"
The covers being pulled off was like a face full of cold water to Alec. He sat up angrily. "Fuck off Jace, it's not like you really care!"
The blonde took this like a slap in the face. "Alexander, you are delusional."
Jace, getting a good look at his friend for the first time in a week, noticed the way his clothes seemed to hang off his already skinny frame. "Eat— Jace said, handing Alec an apple —or so help me God, I will make you eat."
"You can't make me do anything," Alec snapped.
Jace glared at the older boy. Instead of replying, Jace took out a knife from his pocket and began to cut the apple into slices. He took a slice and bit it, apple juice getting onto his lips. Absentmindedly he licked the juices from his lips. Alec flushed and looked away.
Jace held a slice out to Alec. "It's good, just have one slice." Noticing Alec's reluctancy, he moved closer. "Please, for me?"
Alec looked up to meet Jace's smouldering gold eyes, even now he still got butterflies being this close to his friend. "Fine."
Silently Alec ate the apple while Jace watched him, fascinated. Jace had never noticed how dark or long the older boys eyelashes were, or how striking his black hair was against his fair skin. What's happening to me? Jace thought, this is wrong.
A part of Jace was aware that he had a girlfriend, but the rest of him was suddenly consumed by Alec's dark sad eyes, and his slightly chapped lips. Jace desired to make it better, to erase the older boys pain, in any way possible.
Alec, who had finished the apple, looked up confused to see Jace staring at him like he had grown another head. "What?" he asked, "Why are you staring at me? Do I have something on my face?"
Jace didn't respond, instead he hooked his hand into the frayed fabric of Alec's shirt and pulled the sad boy against him, their lips clashing. Jace felt Alec freeze against him, in shock, but a second later he returned the kiss with a passion Jace had never experienced with Clary.
The kiss was rough- fuelled by all the anger and pain Alec had experienced in the past few weeks- and tasted sweet, like the apple they had just eaten. Their tongues fought for dominance, while their hands ripped at each others clothes, until Alec broke it off.
The dark haired boy sat back, catching his breath. His face was flushed, and his eyes were filled with questions. "I don't understand," he said quietly.
Jace, who felt like he had fire running through his veins, shrugged. His eyes were wide and lustful. "There was a piece apple on your lips."
"Jace!" Izzy said, snapping him back to reality. "I asked how many pancakes do you want?"
Jace's eyes widened, shit. His eyes shifted over
to his tired friend, who was still drinking his coffee. "I think I'll just have an apple."At this, the dark haired boy choked on his coffee.
