Part Eighteen

It was nearing on 1am when the DJ played the last song of the night. “Come on, we better get going” Nate said in my ear. I looked at him and smiled, “After one last dance” I said as I pulled him onto the dance floor. “Well since this is the last song, it’s the last dance of the night” Nate chuckled. I wrapped my arms around his neck as he held my waist. I rested my head on his shoulder and watched as Crissi’s family members gather their half asleep children into their arms and the cleaners stacking up the chairs. “It’s nearly your birthday, what do you want?” I asked Nate as I looked at him. “I don’t really want anything, just you and a quiet day hanging out, maybe watch some DVD’s” he said. I looked at him and raised an eyebrow, “Not going to happen, I am going to go full out and take you out, I might even Skype your Mum to join us” I giggled. “You’ve been drinking” Nate chuckled as he spun me. I noticed the room was almost deserted; the DJ was packing up as he spun the vinyl. I looked at Nate, “It’s a wedding, free bar” I chuckled as I pulled away from Nate, grabbed my clutch, heels and camera before walking out of the room. “Hey come back here” I heard Nate call after me. I spun around to notice him grabbing his camera and jacket before coming towards me.

I woke up to an annoying beeping noise only to realise it was Nate’s alarm. I opened one eye to notice I was facing him and gently kicked him under the covers. He groaned, “Turn your alarm off, I have a headache” I said. He waved his arm about and threw his alarm on the floor, it stopped ringing. “There, and you’re not the only one” he mumbled as he turned to face me properly. I closed my eyes and cuddled down into the pillow further, hoping to get another half an hour of sleep only to have Nate touch my nose, “Go away” I said trying not to smile. “Nope” he said as he poked my nose again. I opened my eyes and grabbed his hand before he could poke my nose for a third time. “I told you to quit it” I said, “No you told me to ‘get lost’ actually” he chuckled. I pushed him onto his back and sat on top of him. “I keep forgetting you like being on top” he winked. “I don’t care, I want out of bed and I’m next to the bloody wall” I said as I landed one foot on the floor before being pinned to the bed. “Don’t leave me in bed all by myself” Nate pouted. “I have a hangover, I want painkillers” I said “There’s some on the bedside table” Nate chuckled as he leant over and picked up a box of Nurofen and shook it in front of me. I reached out to get it, only for him to put it at the foot of the bed. “Oh come on” I groaned. “First, join me in the shower, our flight should be here in a few hours and we still haven’t packed” he said pulling me up with him. “Just because you want to have…” I got cut off by him pressing his lips to mine.

When we got back home Nate had seven missed calls on his house phone and another ten on his mobile. “Who wants to contact you that badly?” I asked him as he re-dial on his phone. “Don’t know, it’s a number I’m not familiar with” he said. I just sat down and started to read an old magazine that was lying on his coffee table. “Hello?” I heard Nate say on the phone, there was a pause while the person on the other end spoke. “Jenna, I didn’t know it was you, sorry I was on a flight back to LA from…” Nate said before getting cut off by Jenna speaking. “Okay, okay, I’ll meet you for a coffee… yep… okay, see you in fifteen” Nate said as he hung up. “Seeing another girl behind my back are you?” I asked him jokingly. “Funny! No, Jenna’s one of my best friends, she got panicky when I didn’t answer first time round, she has a new number, so hence how I didn’t know it was her” he said. I nodded, “Cool, so you’re leaving me to get the dogs from the pound then?” I asked as I stood up. “Not if you want to come with me” he said, “Okay let me get this straight, we’ve been together for about eight months now and I’ve never heard of Jenna until now?” I asked him. “Well I’ve been busy with all the conventions and you being in hospital… twice” he said, adding “I just didn’t find the time to tell you” “We were together before the conventions started, you could have told me then” I said. “I forgot because I was enjoying time with you, and getting to know you” he said. “You just didn’t want me to get jealous” I said, “More like I didn’t want her getting jealous” he said, “I think she likes me” he whispered. “Well she’d be blind not to, you’re gorgeous” I said as I rested my arms on his shoulders. He held my waist, “Well I think I am too” he chuckled, “Come on, this conversation has wasted us three minutes” I said as I pulled away from Nate. “Oh so you’re coming with me then?” he asked me. “Of course I am; I wanna meet this girl who’s known you longer than I have” I said as I picked up my bag. “You’re leaving you’re suitcase here then?” Nate asked me, “I’ll get it when we come back” I said as I opened the front door. Nate gave a light chuckle before joining me on the steps.

As we got to Costa a tall brunette girl came bouncing over to Nate and threw her arms around him. “I thought something had happened to you, I haven’t seen you in like forever!” she said “Exaggerating abit there, it’s only been a few months” Nate said as he pulled her at arms length, it was only then that I noticed she was really pretty, prettier than me! “I ordered you a coffee” she said, “You didn’t have too, oh Jenna this is my girlfriend Jaz, Jaz this is Jenna Bryant” Nate said as he introduced us. “Oh so this is the new lady in your life is it?” Jenna said as she hugged me. I hugged her back, “I’ll get you a coffee darling” Nate said as he went up to the counter, “Cappuccino please babe” I called “Got it” he said as Jenna dragged me to the table she was waiting at. “So… how long have you and Nathaniel been together for?” she asked me, “About eight months…” “Eight months? Woah he kept that a secret from me” she chuckled. I looked at her and frowned, “He kept you a secret from me too” I said, “Maybe he didn’t want us ganging up on him” she said. “That’s a possibility” I said as Nate came over to us, “Here you go” he said putting a cup in front of me, I smiled at him as him and Jenna started to catch up.
