Part Nineteen

“It was lovely meeting you Jaz” Jenna said as she started to get ready to leave. “And you” I smiled as I finished my cappuccino, “I need to get the three of us together at some point, I feel like you didn’t get to know to eachother” Nate said, “I’m game if you are” Jenna said, “Yep, I’m game” I said as I felt my phone vibrate in my jeans pocket. I pulled it out and looked at the screen. ‘Crissi’ flashed on the front, “Hello, hows the honeymoon?” I asked her as I stood up and moved into the toilets. “Yeah we’re enjoying ourselves, I have some news” she said. “That’s good, tell me?” I asked her. I heard her sigh, “I’ll tell you when we get back, I don’t feel comfortable telling you over the phone” she said, “I’m your best friend, but I’m not going to push you” I said, “I know, I’ll talk later, bye” she said as she hung up, not giving me a chance to say bye.

When I got out of the toilet and made my way back to Nate, he wasn’t there and neither was my bag. I looked around and saw him standing outside. “Hey” I said as I got outside. “Hey, ready to go now?” he asked, I nodded as he handed me my bag. “Who was on the phone?” he asked me as we linked our fingers together, “Just Crissi, the honeymoon’s going great” I said, “She misses me and wanted to see if there was any news to talk about” I lied. “Cool, I hope that they come back with presents” Nate chuckled as he lightly elbowed my arm. I didn’t say anything, I didn’t know what to say, “Let’s go and get the dogs” he said as he pulled me towards the pound. “Okay” I said.

A few days had past by and it was the day of Nate’s birthday. I woke up before he did and grabbed a pen and post-it notes. I wrote a clue on each post-it, starting in him bedroom and ending in the kitchen where I gone full out for breakfast for him. I was just finishing up when I heard him upstairs. I hid behind the breakfast bar when I heard him coming into the kitchen. “Okay where are you?” I heard him shout, I peeked around the corner to see he was heading back into the livingroom. I stood up and pretended I was there all along. I watched as he turned around to see me before he smiled, “Hey” I smiled, “Hey” he said as he came towards me, “Happy birthday” I said as I handed him a card and a small box. “You didn’t have to go through all this” he said as he opened his card. “I did abit more, but you’ll have to wait until later” I said “You love to torture me, don’t you?” he chuckled as he placed the card on the table. “Eat your pancakes before they get cold” I said as I started to walk into the livingroom. “Come here, it’s my birthday after all” he said cheekily as grabbed my waist and pulled me down to the sofa. He lay above me and started to kiss my neck, “I don’t wanna sound like a ball buster but you’re cut out looks like he’s looking at us” I said. Nate pulled away from me and looked down at me, “Which one?” he asked. “All of them, but your Captain Jack Sparrow one is right there” I said pointing to the corner of the sofa. Nate sighed as he pushed it over, “Better?” he asked me, I shook my head as I grabbed his hand and pulled him upstairs to the bedroom.

As the day went on I tried my hardest to keep the secret I was trying to hide from Nate. “Just tell me?” he asked for the 100th time in the last hour alone. I shook my head, “Nope, you’ll find out in due time” I said as I looked at the clock. ‘5.38’ it read. “We better get ready to go out for dinner, I booked us a table at the restaurant we had our first date in” I said as I stood up off of the sofa. “You didn’t have too” he said, “I wanted to, it’s not every day you start a new chapter in life” I said as I started to walk upstairs.

I got downstairs as I put in my earrings as someone knocked on the door. I opened to see a few of Nate’s friends. “Hey” Jenna smiled as she hugged me, “Heya, Nate’s still getting ready” I said as I pulled the front door closed and stood out in the hallway with Jenna and a few guys. “These are Brenton and Jason, just a small selection of Nate’s friends. “Nice to meet you” I smiled as I shook their hands. “Pleasure’s all mine” Jason winked, “Easy tiger, I’m taken” I said. “Just ignore him, he thinks he’s a ladies man” Brenton said, Jenna just laughed. “You’re taken, by whom?” Jason asked me. “By Nate” I said as I went back into the flat with Jenna. “Jason thinks he’s God answer to every girl’s dream” she chuckled. I giggled as I heard Nate make his way downstairs, “Hey Jenna” he said smiling “I thought it was just us” Nate said looking at me. I shook my head, “Nope it’s a dinner party, or something like that” I said. Nate looked at me, “So how many people?” he asked me. “Oh just a few” I lied. Truth was there were about 10 people.
