Sweeney took a deep breath as he gradually fluttered his eyes open. He was surprised he even slept, let alone nightmare-free.
He looked at his surroundings slightly disorientated as the cold morning air blanketed his room. Madilyn's head was rested on his shoulder and her arm was rested across his chest. He even saw one of his own arms wrapped tightly around her waist from underneath her.
With his free hand, he rubbed his tired eyes that were usually heavy and fuzzy in the morning, but now felt refreshed.
Sweeney's arms snaked themselves carefully away from Madilyn, leaving an an absence of her warmth from his body. He grunted slightly as he arose from the bed, knowing that he'd have to start the day to continue and mend the happenings of the previous night.
He snapped his head back to the bed as he heard it creak as Madilyn made sharp flinches as she slept. Panicked, shallow breaths began to escape her mouth as she mumbled fearfully.
Madilyn woke up with a faint gasp as she sat upright from the bed immediately. A few sheds of tears escaped from her face which she immediately wiped away. She took a few breaths to calm herself down. It was just another dream. She had gotten used to a quick recovery from nightmares and night terrors for the past two nights.
She took deep, heavy breaths as her body grew faint, wanting to collapse back into bed in relief that she was just in her bed. But she wasn't. After a moment's process, she shot her eyes up to meet harshly with Mr. Todd's. A copious flood of thoughts made a rapid slice through her mind as she opened her mouth to say something to express her utter perplexity.
"Don't panic. Nothing happened." Mr. Todd interrupted her momentary shock.
"...Nothing?"
"Don't flatter yourself, kid, I wouldn't try anything with you." Mr. Todd cracked his neck and stretched.
He cleared his throat. "So nightmares are a regular occurrence for you?"
Madilyn nodded, hoping deep inside he wouldn't question her more about the nightmares or Judge Turpin.
Madilyn looked down at her dress. It was no wonder she was so uncomfortable in her sleep, as her corset was still wrapped around her tightly. She grimaced upon seeing the blood stains that seeped through the material from last night.
"Mrs. Lovett can take care of that." Mr. Todd said taking note of her disgusted expression. "You'd think with her dealing with those bloody bodies and shredding the flesh into pies, she'd be an expert on blood stains."
Madilyn widened her eyes and shook as she backed herself away from Mr. Todd as she sat on the bed. This man was a murderer. This man killed an innocent man in front of her. Disbelief was all that could run through her mind as she observed his absolute nonchalant attitude towards such cases.
"Oh, I didn't tell you that, did I?" Mr. Todd sighed. "Fresh meat is hard to come by these days. Seems an awful waste to just let our customers' bodies rot ."
Madilyn stammered and her breaths became shaky. "Wha...w...."
Mr. Todd sighed as he took off his blood-stained shirt revealing his bare toned body, observing the stains in disappointment, before putting on a fresh new shirt, buttoning it up.
Sweeney tossed Madilyn his jacket. "Here. Put this on. We're going downstairs."
Madilyn gave him a puzzled look until he gestured towards the giant splotches of blood on her gown. She put the jacket on and buttoned up, covering all the blood stains. She inhaled deeply capturing the scent of calming french cologne from his jacket. The scent made her feel somewhat at peace, as it smelt the same as her father's, which made her realize what made her doze off so easily the night before.
