~ Chapter 6 ~ Awkward April ~
Author's Note: This chapter is going to be what I call an 'empty chapter', because no major parts of the plot are in this chapter, just that some things from this may be refered to later in the story, but if you don't like stuff like this, please skip it.
"Hi, Flannery," David says as he slumps on our couch with an ice cream - he's been to my house about a thousand times now - okay, maybe that's a rough estimate but I'm sure it's not that far off. He comes to my house at least once every day of the week, and I do the same with his. I guess we both get bored easily - but I mean what would you choose? Be bored forever or hang out with your best mate? Of course, his is ice cream. Some things never change.
I know all his brothers now. Jack's one of the jocks in his year (our school, Lindow Community, teaches from nurcery all the way up to university, so I know that from school), he's got this girlfriend who's utterly the most stupidest girl I know ( "I know opposites may attract, but not in this case," David had said.) Jay is sweet and kind, a brilliant member of a family, I'd easily swap him for Tom. Keeran is way more like David, and they get along like peas in a pod - the only scary thing is that he's going out with Vanessa, Louie's like David and Keeran, too, and just as popular, Thomas is nice, he's a bit like me when I was his age, Connor is extremely clever, and Ethan's the cutest little boy I've ever seen.
"Oh, hello David, how was your day?" I'll be honest here: Aunt Flannery has taken such a liking to David I'm disturbed. I'm glad he's a nice enough person not to be rude even if he is a bit annoyed about how.... too nice she is to him he doesnt't show it.
"It was great, thanks."
The stair creaks.
It's Tom, and he whispers. "Hi... David," he scoffs, quietly.
It's just so funny. Tom acts like some pycho when David's around.
I decide to ask him why, but lightly, so he doesn't go psychopath on me. "Why do you always act strange around David?" I laugh, as I sit next to David on the sofa.
"I'm sorry I was bothering your boyfriend."
...
Tom will be sorry when David leaves.
What?
Did?
Tom?
Just?
Say?!
Idiot. How embarrassing.
"Excuse me?" I say angrily.
Tom just stares. "Sorry, never mind." He tries to lighten up the mood with one of his really, really lame jokes. "I guess I just... never got used to you having actually friends, eheh," he looks around, grinning. "No?" His face falls. "I'm sorry."
I sigh. "It's okay. All I ask is let's pretend that did not happen."
I hear a noise beside me. I turn my head, frowning.
It's David. David's laughing. David's laughing? Why?
"Uh... David?"
"I'm sorry," he says, gasping for breath.
I raise one eyebrow. "I don't see the humor in this."
He continues to laugh, not once breaking eye contact with me. I start to get this tight feeling in my chest and funny feeling in my stomach; I think it's butterflies. It's been long since I've had those.
